The Area Management page lets you manage all your areas from one place - view how many sensors are installed in each, create new areas, rename or delete existing ones, and update species.
1. Accessing Area Management
Open the GreenCast Connect app.
Go to Settings (tap the gear icon ⚙️).
Select Area Management from the settings menu.
Tablet users: The Area Management page is optimized for tablet layouts, making it easier to scan a large number of areas at once.
2. Creating a New Area
From the Area Management page, tap the plus (+) button at the top-right to begin.
Step 1 — Name and Area Type
Enter a name for the new area.
Select an Area Type from the list (e.g. Green, Fairway, Tee).
Tap Next to continue.
Step 2 — Soil Type (optional)
A soil texture triangle is shown for reference.
Choose a soil type from the list (Sandy Loam, Silty Loam, Clay-Heavy Soil, Engineered Soil Mix, Hydroponic Systems) — or leave it blank.
Tap Next to continue.
Step 3 — Species (optional)
Choose a warm-season or cool-season species from the list — or leave it blank.
Tap Create Area to finish.
Now the new area will appear in your list, ready to have sensors assigned to it.
3. Viewing Your Areas
All areas in your current organization appear in a single list
Each row shows the area name and the number of sensors installed in that area
A sensor count badge (green target icon with a number) for areas with sensors installed
A red trash icon for empty areas that can be deleted
4. Renaming an Area
From Area Management, tap the area you want to rename.
Tap the pencil (edit) icon next to the area name.
Enter the new name and tap Save.
Tip: You can also rename an area from the Place screen — see section 7
5. Updating Species
You can change an area's species from either Area Management or the Place screen:
From Area Management: Tap the area, tap the Species field, choose a new species, and tap Save.
From the Place screen: Tap the species line shown at the top of the Place screen — see section 7 for screenshots.
Note: Changing species affects the thresholds and recommendations shown for sensors in this area
6. Deleting an Area
You can only delete an area that has no sensors installed in it. If sensors are still assigned to the area, move them first using Change a Sensor's Area.
Empty areas show a red trash icon in the Area Management list (see section 2 screenshot).
To delete an empty area:
Tap the red trash icon next to the area in the list.
Confirm the action in the pop-up dialog.
Note: Deleting an area cannot be undone. Sensor data is preserved at the sensor level even if its area is later removed.
7. Editing an Area from the Place Screen
You can edit several area details directly from the Place screen (accessed via the Sensors tab), without navigating to Area Management:
From the Sensors tab, open the Place screen for a sensor in that area.
Tap the area name shown at the top of the screen.
The area detail view opens — the same view you'd see from Area Management — where you can rename the area, update species, or delete it.
Changes are reflected immediately in both Area Management and the Place screen.
Editing via the Actions menu
From the Sensors tab, open the Place screen for any sensor in that area.
Tap the pencil (edit) icon at the top-right to open the Actions menu.
Choose one of:
Edit Area Name — rename the area.
Install Sensor — install another sensor in this area.
Edit Threshold — adjust sensor thresholds for the area.
Editing the species
Species are edited separately, by tapping the species line shown at the top of the Place screen.
This opens a bottom sheet with the species list (organized by warm-season and cool-season). Pick a new species and tap Update.
Note: To delete an area, change the area's type, or change the soil type, use the Area Management page (Settings > Area Management).
Tips:
Plan your areas before installing: Setting up your areas first makes installation faster, since you can assign sensors as you go.
Use consistent naming: Clear, predictable area names (e.g. "Green 1", "Green 2", "Tee 4") make filtering and reporting much easier later.
Moving sensors: To move a sensor between areas, use the Change a Sensor's Area flow from the Sensor Actions menu.
