Some of the monetary emission factors used by Greenly come from ADEME's Base Empreinte, the reference database for this type of emission factor in France. These were published in 2015 and have not been adjusted for inflation for several reasons:

  • It is preferable to use physical emissions factors whenever possible, to improve the accuracy of the measurement and to avoid price variations. Physical emission factors are therefore updated more regularly, generally on an annual basis.

  • In all cases, the uncertainty of monetary emission factors remains higher than the variation linked to inflation. The interpretation of the results therefore remains the same, whether or not the emissions factors are adjusted.

  • In most cases, adjusting for inflation would reduce the value (expressed in kgCO2e/$) of the factors used. The most conservative approach is therefore to retain the values published in 2015, calculated using real data.

  • The traceability of monetary emissions factors is simpler, as the values can be directly linked to those in the Empreinte database.

Monetary emissions factors make it quick and easy to calculate the order of magnitude of the emissions linked to your company's activities. For the most significant emissions items, we recommend that you prefer to use the physical analysis modules to improve the accuracy of your balance sheet.
