This Guide outlines steps to map suppliers, link financial and activity data, and replace generic emission factors with precise, validated supplier data.

Why Improve Your Scope 3 Calculations with Supplier Data?

Accurate measurement of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is crucial for effective climate action. By incorporating supplier-specific data into your calculations, you can significantly improve the precision of your Scope 3 emissions reporting.

Benefits of Enhanced Precision

  • More accurate identification of emission hotspots

  • Better-informed reduction strategies

  • Improved ability to measure decarbonization progress

  • More reliable tracking of reduction targets

How to Integrate Supplier Data

Step 1: Create and Upload Your Supplier List

From your dashboard, click on the task "Centralize Supplier Information and Identify Key Partners". You will be able to start compiling a comprehensive list of your suppliers and uploading it to the platform. This enables:

  • Cross-referencing emissions data with specific suppliers

  • Identifying suppliers with available emissions data in our database

  • Mapping your top emissive suppliers

  • Understanding your supply chain's climate maturity and impact

Step 2: Link Emissions to Suppliers

Once your supplier list is uploaded, you'll need to:

  • Connect your financial data to specific suppliers: Add your supplier's name in the specific column of your accounting file before import to allow the mapping

  • Link activity data to corresponding suppliers: Add your supplier's name in the specific column in each of your activity modules, before import, to allow the mapping

  • Validate the connections between your emissions and suppliers

Example: Vehicle Fleet

Step 3: Leverage Supplier-Specific Data: Review Your Top Suppliers Based on Emissions

3.1 Supplier Data is Already Available

Some of your supplier's data are available on Greenly's data-base. In this case, after completing the matching process, the platform will:

  • Integrate available supplier-specific emission factors

  • Replace generic emission factors with supplier-specific data where available

  • Enhance the accuracy of your GHG calculations

3.2 Request Supplier Data Through Greenly Automations

Engage your suppliers in your climate strategy and decision-making process by requesting the specific information you need. After completing the supplier mapping, you can cross-check available data in Greenly's database and request any additional information required.

The Greenly platform simplifies supplier collaboration, allowing you to request key data tailored to your needs. You can gather multiple types of information, including:

  • Data to Improve Scope 3 Accuracy: A short questionnaire to enhance your GHG assessment precision. This includes supplier-specific LCA data or emission factors (for service providers only, this covers annual Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, along with their revenue).

  • SBTi Compliance: Data to align with Science-Based Targets.

  • CSRD Compliance: Information to meet Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive requirements.

  • Maturity Score: A complete survey with multiple questions. Greenly's climate survey evaluates supplier sustainability practices and assigns a climate maturity score (A to D), offering a comprehensive view of their environmental progress.

By leveraging Greenly automation, you can streamline supplier engagement and ensure the accurate, actionable data needed for effective climate strategies.

4. Important Considerations

While this process is optional, not implementing supplier mapping limits your ability to:

  • Identify and engage with your highest-emitting suppliers

  • Access supplier-specific emission factors for more precise calculations

  • Integrate suppliers effectively into your climate strategy

  • Track supplier-specific emission reductions over time

By following these steps and implementing supplier mapping, you'll be better positioned to develop targeted reduction strategies and track your progress toward climate goals with greater precision.
