The Key Requirement: A Duration-Based Goal
The most important thing to know is that the Timer feature is only available for habits with a goal measured in time—specifically, in "minutes" or "hours".
The timer is designed to help you track how long you perform an activity. If your habit has a simple "1 time per day" goal or is measured in a different unit (like "Drink 2 liters of water"), the timer button will not appear.
How to Set Up a Habit to Use the Timer
To get the timer button to appear, you need to create a habit with a duration-based goal. Here are two easy ways to do that.
Option 1: Use a Pre-Made Template
The quickest way to get started is to use one of our built-in habit templates that are already set up for duration tracking.
Tap the '+' icon to create a new habit.
Choose one of our popular templates like "Read a Book," "Meditate," or "Running."
On the habit creation screen, you can change the habit name to whatever you like (e.g., change "Read a Book" to "Study Spanish").
In the Goal setting, you can set the unit is to "minutes" or "hour."
Set your desired goal time and save the habit.
Option 2: Create a Custom Habit
If you want more control, you can create a custom habit from scratch.
Tap the '+' icon and choose "Create Custom Habit."
Give your habit a name.
Tap on the "Goal" section
In Unit section, tap on the current unit.
Scroll through the list to the Duration category, and choose "minutes" or "hours."
Configure other settings and save your habit.
Finding the Timer Button
Once you have created a habit with a duration-based goal, back to your main Journal list. You will see the "Timer" button placed next to your habit, ready for you to begin your session.
