Who is this article for?
Haulers looking to set up geographical zones to help identify where specific services can be provided, where specific tax rules apply, and where specific services have special pricing.
Why are zones important?
Zones are how you tell Hauler Hero where your business actually operates. With zones, you can tell us:
Where you offer each of your services
What taxes are applied to which customers and services
Which of your services have special, area-specific pricing
By configuring your services and pricing with respect to these zones, you minimize manual overrides, avoid servicing areas you don’t cover, and prevent tax, compliance, and pricing mistakes that eat into your margins.
Before you start
Know the physical boundaries of where you operate
Know your tax jurisdictions
Know what you offer at each area you operate
Know what areas you offer special pricing
Having these either in hand make it must easier to set them up in Hauler Hero.
Where do I go to set up and configure my zones?
Go to “Pricing” in the top navigation, followed by “Zones” in the left navigation underneath the “Services” section.
Click “Create” to create a zone, or any of the listed zones followed by “Edit” to update it.

How do I configure a zone?
In the “Create Zone” dialog (”Edit” if updating an existing one):
Zone Name -- A meaningful name for your and your team to identify this zone
Description -- Any information you or your team need to know about the zone
What is this zone for -- What you use this zone for
Service -- What services are available to locations in the zone
Tax -- What tax rules are applicable to services rendered to locations in the zone
Pricing -- What special pricing is available to locations in the zone
This will influence what zones are selectable when you are working with service, pricing, and tax configurations elsewhere in the Hauler Hero website app.
When creating a zone for the first time, you’ll be asked to define its boundaries. You can quickly do this by clicking “Add Boundaries.”
This will allow you to search for predefined zones as per the US Census Bureau; cities, countries, wards, and special districts.
Click “Add” to add that US Census Bureau-defined zone to your configured zone in Hauler Hero.
If you prefer, you can manually draw your zone’s boundaries by clicking “Draw custom boundary” to draw a polygon around the area you want to define for your zone.
When you’ve finished defining your boundaries, click “Save Boundary” in the bottom right to save your freshly created (or updated) zone!
Note that if you use US Census Zones, Hauler Hero does not automatically refresh their boundaries when they are re-drawn. You’ll need to refresh them at the start of each new calendar year to ensure they’re up-to-date.
