This step-by-step guide walks users through the process of searching, selecting, and sharing specific message threads from the extraction to your legal team or the account holder. You can search for conversations by contact name, phone number, or keyword. Messages from selected conversations cannot be reviewed in the Hearsay Extractor application. They are only viewable in your legal team’s (or account holder’s) web portal once shared.
Step 1: Search
Use the search bar to find conversations by contact name, phone number, or keyword.
Contact Name
When searching by contact name, it must match how the contact is saved on the phone. The Hearsay Extractor uses fuzzy matching, so you may see similar names appear as you type.
Phone Number
Phone number search is an exact match.
Keywords
Keyword search identifies conversations that include the word. When you select a conversation using keyword search, the entire conversation thread will be shared, not just the specific message with the keyword.
You can enter multiple keywords. After typing a keyword, press Enter, then continue adding more. Keywords are linked by “or,” not “and,” so any conversation containing any of the keywords will appear. The date range filter only affects when the keyword was used. It does not limit the date range of the conversation once it’s selected and shared.
Step 2: Select
To select messages to share, you can:
Click individual messages manually
Or click the Select All button in the bottom left corner of your screen
After selecting a conversation, you can clear your search term and continue searching for more conversations to include. Clearing the search does not remove any conversations you've already selected. All selected threads will be shared together in the next step.
Step 3: Share
Click the Share button to upload the selected conversations to your legal team’s online portal for review and export.
Only the conversations you select will be shared. No other data is uploaded.
Keep the application open
Do not close the Hearsay Extractor until you see the Sharing Complete screen.
Upload time depends on your internet connection and the number of conversations being shared.
