Seasonality Prices Tab

Viewing price series YoY for trend analysis

B
Written by Brooke Schuyler

The Seasonality Price Tab gives you a clear view of historical and current commodity prices in a seasonal context. It allows you to compare price behavior across multiple years so you can identify typical seasonal patterns, spot abnormal price movements, and understand how current conditions align with past trends.

All prices shown here match the values on the Classic Cash Price Tab — this tab simply presents the same data in a seasonal, year-over-year format.

The tab includes two main views:

  • A pricing graph that visualizes year-to-year comparisons

  • A pricing table that provides detailed monthly values

Features

Filters and Selections

The filters at the top of the page allow you to narrow the price series you want to analyze. Use this tool to build the comparison set most relevant to your analysis.

Available Filters - You can filter by:

  • Origin Country

  • Variety

  • Price Type (export, wholesale, farmgate, and any subtype associated with those categories)

The Individual Price Series dropdown updates automatically based on the first three filters.

  • If only one price series matches your selections, it will auto-populate.

  • If multiple price series match, you can choose the one you prefer.

Year Selector - You can choose which years appear in the graph and table below.

  • By default, the tab displays the current year, the next year (if after July), and the two previous years.

  • You can add older years for deeper comparison or limit your view to only one or two specific years.

Pricing Graph

The Pricing Graph visualizes how prices change throughout the year, allowing you to compare multiple years at the same point in the calendar.

How it works

  • The graph always displays prices from January through December.

  • Each selected year appears as a separate line.

  • You can view how prices track relative to growing season phases, helping connect climate or seasonal events with market behavior.

What you can do with this graph

  • Compare prices across years for the same week or month

  • Check whether current prices follow typical seasonal patterns

  • Identify years with similar price movement

  • Evaluate how weather or growing season timing may have influenced past price trends

  • Full-screen view — Expands the graph for easier viewing and presentations

Price Comparison Box

The Price Comparison Box appears only for price series that include numerical price predictions. If a price series is currently experiencing no market activity (is “off-season”), the price comparison box will also not appear.

What this box shows

  • Whether current prices align with typical seasonal behavior

  • How this month’s price compares to the same month last year (absolute and percentage change)

  • The most similar climate year to the current one, allowing you to reference a past season with comparable conditions

    • This is especially helpful when assessing whether climate-driven risks may influence prices similarly this year.

Use this section for quick benchmarking and to understand how today’s market fits into long-term patterns.

Pricing Table

The Pricing Table presents the same information as the graph, but in a structured table format for detailed comparison and easy exporting.

What you can view

  • Calendar Month — January through December

  • Growing Season Phase for each month

  • Monthly Average Prices for all selected years, including forecasted values if available

This view is useful when you need exact numbers, want to export data, or need a clearer month-by-month breakdown than what the graph provides.

  • Full-screen view — Expands the table for easier reading
