Locations Tab

Using & accessing the locations tab

B
Written by Brooke Schuyler

The Locations tab allows you to view and explore individual growing locations on a map. It is designed to help you understand where a commodity is produced, how risk varies from location to location, and how those locations relate to your commodities, countries, or suppliers.

This tab is especially useful when you want to move beyond country or regional averages and look at conditions at the ground level.

Accessing the Locations Tab

To open the Locations tab:

  1. Start from the Commodity Tracker interface.

  2. Use the left-side navigation menu.

  3. Click the pinpoint icon labeled Locations.

This opens the Locations tab and displays the interactive map.

Map Overview

When the Locations tab opens, the map automatically loads growing locations for the first commodity in your list.

For example, if almonds are your first commodity, the map will show all known growing locations for almonds worldwide.

As you interact with the map:

  • Zooming out shows clusters of locations.

  • Zooming in reveals individual growing locations.

  • Each location is represented by a colored marker.

Location Color Coding

Each location marker is color-coded based on its seasonal climate risk rating.

The colors indicate:

  • Green: Conditions are good or great

  • Orange: Conditions are neutral

  • Red: Conditions are poor or terrible

This visual system allows you to quickly identify areas that may be experiencing elevated climate risk.

Location Details on Hover

When you hover over a location marker, a tooltip appears showing:

  • The name of the location

  • The country it is in

  • The commodity associated with that location

This makes it easy to identify specific locations without clicking into them.

Location Status Icons

Each location marker includes three icons that provide additional context:

  1. Seasonal climate risk
This icon reflects the current seasonal climate risk rating for the location.

  2. Economic risk
This icon highlights economic or market-related risk factors tied to the location.

  3. Critical events
This icon indicates whether a critical event, such as a natural disaster, has occurred.

    • Red icon: A recent critical event has occurred.

    • Gray icon: A critical event occurred in the past (within the last five years), but there is no current active event.

These icons allow you to quickly assess multiple risk dimensions at a glance.

Opening a Location Page

To view detailed information for a specific location:

  • Click the location marker on the map, or

  • Select the shortcut icon in the top-right corner of the location tooltip

This takes you directly to the individual growing location page, where you can explore detailed climate metrics, graphs, and KPIs.

To return to the map, navigate back to the Locations tab using the left-side menu.

Filtering & Searching for Locations

The Locations tab includes several filtering options to help narrow what appears on the map.

Filter by Commodity

You can select a specific commodity to view only the locations where that commodity is grown.

Filter by Country

You can choose one country to see all growing locations within that country, across all commodities or for a selected commodity.

Filter by Supplier

If you use the Suppliers feature, you can select a supplier to display only the locations associated with that supplier. This is especially useful for analyzing risk across your actual supply base.

Show Out-of-Season Locations

You can choose to display locations that are currently out of season. This allows you to review locations even when they are not actively growing.

Searching for Locations

You can search for specific growing locations using the search field.

To search:

  1. Click into the search box.

  2. Start typing the name of a location.

  3. Matching results will appear as you type.

  4. Select a result to jump directly to that location on the map.

This is helpful when you already know the name of a location and want to find it quickly.

How to Use the Locations Tab Effectively

  • Use color coding to quickly identify high-risk areas.

  • Zoom in to compare conditions across nearby locations.

  • Filter by supplier to focus on your direct exposure.

  • Click into individual locations to understand why risk is elevated.

  • Use out-of-season views for planning and historical review.
