Climate Tab (Current Conditions & Forecast Risk)

Purpose

The Climate Tab shows how weather and climate conditions are currently affecting a commodity and how they are expected to evolve through the growing season. It is designed to help users understand where climate risk exists, why it exists, and how severe it may be.

This tab is especially useful for:

  • Monitoring in-season production risk

  • Identifying vulnerable regions early

  • Understanding potential yield impacts

Global Level

What you see

At the global level, the Climate Tab provides a high-level overview of climate conditions across all producing countries.

Key elements include:

  • A climate table listing major producing and exporting countries

  • Seasonal climate risk ratings for each country

  • Status indicators that signal whether conditions require action or monitoring

  • Growing season phase information

  • Yield ratings that estimate end-of-season outcomes

  • The riskiest part of the season and its main driver

  • The most similar historical year based on climate patterns

The table is ordered by production and export importance, ensuring the countries that matter most to global supply appear first.

Country Level

How to access

Click on any country name in the global table.

What changes

At the country level, all climate metrics are recalculated specifically for that country. You can:

  • View national climate risk trends

  • Extend the timeframe to explore further into the past or future

  • Compare climate severity across different periods

  • See which regions within the country contribute most to overall risk

The charts at this level help you understand whether risk is increasing, decreasing, or remaining stable at the national scale.

Region Level

How to access

From the country page, click on a region name.

What you see

Regional views show:

  • Aggregated climate risk across growing regions

  • Regional climate risk by severity

  • Regional climate risk by main risk factor

  • Key metrics summarizing conditions across all locations in the region

This view is useful for identifying sub-national hotspots and determining whether national risk is driven by one region or spread across many.

Growing Location Level

Purpose

The growing location level is the most detailed climate view available. All higher-level metrics are built from this data.

What you see

At this level, the page layout changes to emphasize explanation and granularity:

  • A clear description of why the location received its climate risk rating

  • Separate graphs for:

    • Climate risk (WA%R)

    • Temperature risk

    • Precipitation risk

  • KPIs that summarize trends for each graph

  • Timeframe controls that allow short-term or long-term analysis

This view is designed to answer:
“What exactly is happening at this location, and what is driving the risk?”
