Why aren't my bundle discounts applying at checkout?

Atlas applies bundle discounts through the Shopify cart and checkout. Any checkout that bypasses them will not receive the discount.

Written by Eddie Lavandera

If the offer shows on the product page but the discount is missing at checkout, the most common cause is a checkout that does not go through the Shopify cart. Atlas applies bundle discounts as Shopify automatic discounts, evaluated by Shopify during the cart and checkout. A third-party checkout, a cash on delivery app, or an express buy button that skips the Shopify cart never triggers them.

In this article:

Step 1: Test the standard Shopify checkout

Establish whether the discount works at all before investigating anything else.

  1. Open a bundled product in a private browser window.

  2. Select a bundle offer and add it to the cart.

  3. Go to the normal Shopify cart page, not an express button.

  4. Proceed to checkout and look for the discount line.

What it means

Discount applies

The bundle is correct. The problem is your customers' checkout path. Go to step 2.

Discount missing

The problem is the discount itself. Go to step 3.

Step 2: Check for a third-party checkout

⚠️ If you use a cash on delivery app, a one-click checkout app, or any custom checkout that bypasses the Shopify cart, bundle discounts will not apply, because Atlas applies discounts through the Shopify cart and checkout. This is not a bug in either app, and there is no Atlas setting that fixes it.

Common culprits:

  • Cash on delivery apps with their own order form

  • One-page or one-click checkout apps that build the order themselves

  • Custom checkouts built by an agency

  • Express buttons that skip the cart, depending on how they are configured

Your options: route customers through the standard Shopify checkout, or accept that bundle pricing does not reach the alternative path and do not advertise bundle discounts to customers using it.

Step 3: Check the discount exists in Shopify

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.

  2. Filter to automatic discounts.

  3. Look for discounts matching your bundle offers.

If they are missing, your bundle may not be genuinely active. Open it in Atlas, confirm it reads Bundle is active, and select Publish Bundle again.

If they exist but are inactive, check their dates. A discount with an end date in the past will not apply.

If you are at 25 automatic discounts, some of your offers may not have got a discount at all. See "You have reached the maximum number of automatic discounts".

Step 4: Check the cart actually matches the offer

An offer only applies when the cart matches its conditions.

  • Quantity. A buy-three offer needs three units of the same product, not three different products.

  • Variants. If the offer targets specific variants, other variants do not qualify.

  • Product. For multi-product bundles, all the required products must be in the cart.

Adding items to the cart separately, rather than through the bundle block, can produce a cart that looks right to you but does not match the offer's conditions.

Step 5: Check for competing discounts

Shopify has rules about which discounts can combine.

  1. Open the automatic discount in Shopify.

  2. Look at its Combinations settings.

  3. If another discount is applying instead, they may not be allowed to stack.

ℹ️ A customer with a discount code may not also receive your bundle discount, depending on how combinations are configured. Shopify decides this, not Atlas. See Shopify's documentation on combining discounts.

Another bundling or volume-discount app will also compete here. Only one bundle app can be active on a store.

If nothing here explains it

Start a chat from the bubble in the bottom right of Atlas, or email support@helloatlas.io. Either way, include:

  • your store URL

  • the bundle name and the specific offer that is not applying

  • the product URL

  • whether you use any checkout app, and which one

  • a screenshot of the checkout showing the missing discount

  • an order number where the discount should have applied but did not

The order number is the most useful item. It lets support see exactly what was in the cart and which discounts Shopify evaluated.
