⚠️ As of February 25, 2026, Atlas no longer generates or imports themes. If you already have the Atlas theme installed, your theme is unaffected and everything in this article still applies. New users can use Atlas to generate pages and import them into any Shopify theme.
Switching themes is a Shopify action, and the critical part for Atlas merchants is what to do before you publish the new theme. Atlas extensions are enabled per theme, so publishing a theme without setting it up first disables every Atlas feature at once, silently.

Publishing a theme
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, then Themes.
Find the theme in your Theme library.
Select Publish.
The published theme is what customers see. Everything else sits in the library, unpublished.
💡 Preview before you publish. On any unpublished theme, use the three-dot menu and select Preview to see it on a real storefront without customers seeing anything.
Before you switch: the setup checklist
⚠️ Do all of this while the new theme is still unpublished. Doing it afterwards means a window where your store is live with every Atlas feature broken.
Enable both Atlas app embeds on the new theme. In its theme editor, open Theme settings, then App embeds, and turn on
Atlas Page BuilderandAtlas Cart Upsells. Save.Add the Atlas Bundler block to the new theme's product template, and to any other product template your bundled products use. Save.
Republish your Atlas pages to the new theme, using
Publish againon each page row in Atlas and selecting the new theme.Preview and check: a product page with a bundle, an Atlas-generated page, and the cart drawer with something in it.
Publish the theme.
Check the Theme extensions card in Atlas afterwards. All three should show
ActiveorAdded.
Switching back
Your previous theme stays in your theme library. To go back, publish it again.
Everything you had on it is still there: its settings, its sections, and the Atlas pages that were published into it.
ℹ️ Pages you published to the new theme while it was live do not come back with you. If you built pages during that period, republish them to the theme you are returning to.

The pattern: anything in Shopify's data travels; anything in the theme's files does not.
Removing a theme you no longer want
Go to Online Store, then Themes.
On the theme in your library, select the three-dot menu, then Remove.
⚠️ Removing a theme deletes its customisations and any Atlas pages published into it. It cannot be undone, and Atlas cannot recover pages from a deleted theme. Download a copy first if there is any chance you will want it back: use Download theme file in the same menu.
You cannot remove the published theme. Publish something else first.
