Checking your theme extensions status

The dashboard card that shows whether all three Atlas extensions are working, what each badge means, and how to fix any that are not.

Written by Eddie Lavandera

The Theme extensions card on your Atlas dashboard is the fastest diagnosis available in the product. It shows whether all three Atlas extensions are working on your published theme, and gives you a button to fix any that are not. When something Atlas-related stops working, look here first.

In this article:

Finding the card

It sits on your Atlas dashboard, below the Projects content table, headed Theme extensions.

The subtitle names the theme being reported on: Status on your published theme, {themeName}, or Status on your published theme if the name is unavailable.

ℹ️ Read the theme name. The card reports on your published theme only. If you have been working in a duplicate, its status is not shown here.

Reading the badges

Three items, and the Bundler uses different words from the other two.

Add to theme

The difference is not cosmetic. The two embeds are switched on once per theme. The Bundler is a block placed on a template, so it is added rather than activated.

Hover any extension name to see what it does:

  • Atlas Page Builder: Required for pages published by Atlas

  • Atlas Cart Upsells: Shows your upsell offers in the cart

  • Atlas Bundler: Shows your bundle offers on product pages

Fixing something that is off

Each item that is not working shows a button that opens the right place in the theme editor.

For either app embed: select Activate. The theme editor opens with the embed switched on. Press Save.

For the Bundler block: select Add to theme. The theme editor opens on your product template with the block staged. Position it, usually just above the add to cart button, then press Save.

⚠️ Pressing Save in the theme editor is what applies the change in every case. Opening the editor is not enough. If the card still shows a problem after you have been through the editor, this is nearly always why.

Atlas re-checks on its own after you save.

The error state

If Atlas cannot read your theme you will see:

Couldn't check your theme extensions. Re-check in a moment.

with a Re-check button.

This means the check failed, not that your extensions are off. Select Re-check after a moment. If it keeps failing, your Atlas features may still be working fine, so test your storefront directly before assuming anything is broken.

What the card does not tell you

So you do not over-trust a row of green badges:

It does not check non-published themes. A page published into a draft theme needs the extensions on that theme too, and the card will not tell you whether they are there.

It does not tell you which product template the Bundler is on. Added means the block exists on a product template, not necessarily the one your bundled products use. If bundles show on some products and not others, this is the reason.

It does not check whether your features are configured. An active Cart Upsells embed with no active cart drawer shows a green badge and an empty cart.

It does not check for conflicting apps. Another cart drawer app can win against Atlas while all three extensions report as working.

When to check it

💡 Check this card after any theme change, without exception. Publishing a new theme, restoring a backup, or applying a theme update can all switch these off, and nothing else in Atlas or Shopify will warn you.

Also check it:

  • Before a launch or a sale

  • Whenever a merchant reports an Atlas feature missing

  • As the first step of any storefront troubleshooting, before investigating anything else

It takes two seconds and eliminates the most common cause of every "it stopped working" report.
