Cleaning Kitchen Appliances

Use this article to clean the kitchen appliances in a Landing home to standard, inside and out.

Who this is for: Hosts and Cleaning Companies cleaning a Landing kitchen.

This is the step-by-step for each appliance. For the standard your work needs to meet, see Landing Cleaning Standards, and for the products to use, see Building Your Host Cleaning Kit.

A few rules apply to every appliance:

  • Clean each appliance inside and out.

  • For tough or baked on stains, let the cleaning product sit for at least 30 minutes, then clean again. Repeat as needed.

  • On stainless steel surfaces, use a stainless steel cleaner and follow the product directions, so you do not leave streaks or scratches.

Refrigerator

Clean the inside so there are no stains, crumbs, or food residue. All shelves, drawers, walls, and glass should be spotless. Check under the glass shelves near the support pieces. Wipe the outside and the handles, and remove any fingerprints.

Dishwasher

Microwave

Clean the inside until it is spotless, with no smells, food stains, or discoloration. Clean the top, the bottom, and under the food plate. Wipe the outside and the handle.

Oven

Clean the walls, ceiling, floor, and door. Take the racks out and clean them in the sink with oven cleaner, then rinse them and set them aside to dry. Clean the glass until it is streak free. Wipe the handle and the outside free of food and fingerprints. Remove any crumbs from the warming drawer under the oven.

Always empty and clean out the bottom drawer. The storage or warming drawer under the oven must be emptied and wiped clean on every job, with no crumbs, grease, or items left inside.

Keurig

Clean the outside and the removable parts first:

  • Remove all K-cups and wipe out the K-cup holder.

  • Empty and dry the water tank.

  • Wipe the drip tray and the outside.

Then deep clean the Keurig at each turnover by descaling it with the white vinegar from your cleaning kit. The vinegar dissolves the hard water and limescale buildup inside the machine.

  1. Fill the water reservoir with 10 oz of undiluted white vinegar, and place a ceramic mug, not a paper cup, on the drip tray.

  2. Lift the handle without adding a K-cup, lower it, and press Brew. When the vinegar finishes dispensing, pour it out in the sink.

  3. Add another 10 oz of white vinegar and start a second brew. Power the brewer off as it begins to dispense, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then power it back on, lift and lower the handle, press Brew, and pour the vinegar out.

  4. Rinse with fresh water. Fill the reservoir with 10 oz of fresh water and run a full brew into the mug. Repeat the fresh water rinse three more times to clear any vinegar taste.

If the home has a single-serve K-Mini with no standing reservoir, add each amount of vinegar or water one brew at a time through the same steps.

Blender
