Landing Painting

Use this article when you have a painting job, so you know what Landing expects and how to work through it.

Who this is for: Hosts doing a painting job in a Landing home.

What the job is

You paint one to four accent walls in the apartment.

Which walls you paint

Normally you paint the sofa wall in the living room and the headboard wall in each bedroom.

Depending on the layout of the unit, the accent wall in the living room is sometimes the TV wall instead of the sofa wall. This varies by floorplan type.

Check the floor plan and confirm with your Install Coordinator before you start, so you paint the right wall for that unit.

The colour

The current colour is Sherwin Williams SW 6195 Rock Garden, in Super Paint, velvet finish.

Landing changes the accent colour roughly every six months to keep homes feeling fresh.

If a job uses a different colour, your Install Coordinator will tell you and it will be noted in the job, or the right paint will already be ordered for you to collect. If nothing says otherwise, use the current colour.

Painting standards

  • Use painters tape for straight edges and clean lines.

  • Do not use primer. Apply two solid coats per accent wall.

  • Paint sprayers are not allowed.

  • Remove light and outlet covers with a Phillips screwdriver, and put them back before you leave.

What Landing provides

  • The floor plan, showing which walls to paint

  • The paint, in most cases. See step 2.

What you bring

Step or multi position ladder, drop cloths, painters tape, brushes, roller trays, roller tray liners, roller, roller covers, extension pole, shop towels, clear caulk and sponge, spackling paste and compound, Phillips screwdriver, mineral spirits.

Step by step

1. Check the job is in your Host App.

2. Collect the paint. In most cases your Install Coordinator has already placed an order for you to collect from Sherwin Williams.

Before you set off, confirm with your Install Coordinator which applies:

  • There is an order waiting at Sherwin Williams, which is the usual arrangement. Collect it.

  • You need to buy the paint yourself, in which case pay with your PEX Card. See What is a PEX Card?.

  • The paint is already in the unit, ready for you.

Do not assume. Ask, because all three happen.

3. Get directions from the job in the Host App. Open the job to find the address and the instructions for getting into the property.

4. Start the job in the Host App. Press the green Start Job button no more than 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.

5. Check the floor plan with your Install Coordinator. Confirm the unit number matches the plan, and confirm which walls you are painting. The wall dimensions on the plan are always estimates.

6. Prepare the space. Drop cloths on all floors you will be painting over. Remove the light and outlet covers.

7. Clean up. Rinse any sink you used so no paint residue is left. Take rollers and debris away with you. Put the leftover sealed paint cans in the Landing storage room at the property.

8. Photograph and complete. Add photos of the finished walls to the job tasks, then mark the job Complete. That starts the payment process.
