Onboarding The Hexis App

How to set up your account and profile for personalised nutrition recommendations

Use this article to understand what Hexis asks during onboarding and why, so you can set up your profile accurately from day one.

Before you start

Onboarding happens the first time you log in to the Athlete app. If you haven't created your account yet, see Getting Started - Athletes for how to sign up or accept a Coach invite and download the app.

What the Onboarding Process Does

The Hexis onboarding process collects key information about your body, lifestyle, and training so the platform can deliver accurate, personalised nutrition recommendations. This foundational setup allows Hexis to understand your goals and daily demands from the start.

Entering your physical profile

The first section of onboarding focuses on your physical profile: date of birth, biological sex at birth, height, and body weight. These inputs are essential because they're used in the prediction equations that calculate your resting metabolic rate, which forms the foundation of all daily energy calculations.

You'll also choose your preferred units, metric or imperial, before entering your height and weight.

Setting your body composition goal

You'll be asked to define your primary goal: Lose, Maintain, or Gain weight. If you select Lose or Gain, you'll also be asked to enter a target weight. Selecting Maintain keeps your calories at maintenance level. See Updating your weight and tracking Body Composition Trends for what each goal means for your Fuel Plan.

Defining your training volume

Next, you'll indicate how many hours per week you typically train. This allows Hexis to account for the energy cost of your structured training sessions.

Describing your daily activity outside training

Hexis also asks about your non-exercise activity thermogenesis - how active you are during the day outside of formal training, such as desk-based work versus a physically active job. Selecting the option that best reflects your lifestyle helps Hexis accurately estimate your baseline daily energy needs.

Selecting your primary sport

Hexis includes sport-specific models for a wide range of activities, from endurance sports to high-intensity and intermittent field sports. Choose your primary sport so Hexis can apply the most appropriate performance and fuelling model.

You can also select up to three additional regular activities. This step is optional, but it makes logging workouts easier later and helps Hexis build a more complete picture of your training profile.

Setting up integrations

As a final step, you'll have the option to connect training integrations. See Wearable Integrations for how this works in detail - you can also complete this step later if you'd prefer.

Updating your profile after onboarding

All onboarding information can be updated at any time from the More tab. Select My Profile to add body fat and skinfold measurements, or select Personalised Nutrition to adjust sleep settings and update your weight target.

Why accuracy during onboarding matters

The quality of your recommendations depends on the accuracy of the information you provide. Hexis uses this data as the foundation for many calculations throughout your daily use. Taking the time to enter honest and precise details about your lifestyle, training, and goals ensures the most effective and personalised nutrition guidance from day one.
