🔹 How do I set job alerts?
Search for jobs, enter your email in the Email me jobs like this field, and click Create Alert to receive job notifications.
🔹 How can I customize my alert preferences (job type and location)?
Use targeted keywords and location to focus your alerts.
In the search bar, enter specific job titles or skills (for example, “cybersecurity,” “logistics manager,” or any trade term) and the city/state you prefer.
The Location field also narrows results to that area.
If you’re browsing job listings, you can also refine a search by category, company, or other filters.
Once you've narrowed your search, enter your email in the Email me jobs like this field to save an alert with those exact filters. This way, your alerts match the exact job type and location you want.
🔹 How do I pause, update, or unsubscribe from alerts?
To unsubscribe or stop an alert, click the Unsubscribe link on any alert email – this will immediately cancel those emails.
If you want to update or refine an alert, simply revisit the alerts form and enter new keywords, location, or frequency, then submit again. This replaces your old settings.
If you need help at any time, contact HireVeterans support at support@hireveterans.com for assistance with your email preferences.
🔹 How do I make alerts more relevant and effective?
Use specific keywords: The more precise your terms, the better the matches. For example, instead of a broad word like “engineer,” use “civil engineer” or “IT security”. Include any specialized skills, certifications, or military job titles you have.
Combine filters: When setting an alert, include both keyword and location together. You can also adjust your alerts over time – for example, add nearby cities or different job titles as your search evolves.
Keep your profile current: Although not part of alerts, having an up-to-date profile with a strong resume means employers and the system know your exact skills. This can help the site recommend jobs to you and make sure your alerts (which use those keywords) stay relevant.
By fine-tuning keywords, locations, and frequency as needed, you’ll get the most relevant veteran-friendly job postings in your inbox. Good luck with your job search!
🔹 How will I know if an employer is interested?
You’ll receive an email notification if an employer contacts you through the Hire Veterans platform.
If your application is redirected to the employer’s external career portal, follow-up communication may come directly from their system—either via email or through a call from a recruiter or hiring manager.
SPECIAL NOTE: A legitimate employer will never ask you to pay to get hired.
