Configure the contract types your organisation uses in employment terms, such as full-time, part-time, or fixed-term. You can make each type available for employees, contractors, or both, and archive types you no longer use.
To learn how contract types are relevant to employment terms, visit Employment terms.
Before you begin
Creating, editing, and deleting contract types depend on the permissions assigned to your role. By default, owners and admins have permission to manage contract types.
Add a contract type
Click Settings.
Click Employment.
In the Contract types card, click Add contract type.
Enter a Contract type name.
Select one or more Employment types. To select both, click Select all.
Click Add contract type.
Contract type names must be unique. Otherwise, an error message displays if the name already exists.
If the name is similar to an existing contract type, you'll see a warning message. This is just a suggestion, it won't block you.
Edit a contract type
Click Settings.
Click Employment.
In the Contract types card, click Edit next to the contract type.
Update the name or the employment types.
Click Save.
The employment types decide where a contract type appears. A contract type set to Employee appears only when you choose the Employee employment type when editing terms.
Archive a contract type
Archive a contract type to stop it appearing in new employment terms while keeping it on existing records.
Click Settings.
Click Employment.
In the Contract types card, click Edit next to the contract type.
Click Archive.
Archived contract types show an Archived badge. Existing terms that use the contract type keep it, and the contract type still appears when you edit those terms.
To make an archived contract type available again, open it and click Unarchive.
Delete a contract type
You can delete a contract type only when no employment terms use it. To remove one that's in use, archive it instead.
Click Settings.
Click Employment.
In the Contract types card, click Edit next to the contract type.
Click Delete.
Click Confirm and delete contract type.
Deleting a contract type is permanent.
Delete a contract type that's in use
To delete a contract type that is in use, use an Employment terms history table to replace or remove it. This can be particularly helpful if many employees have this contract type and changes need to be made in bulk.
Open Tables.
Select an Employment terms table. If you don't see one, click Create new table > select Employment terms history.
Filter using Contract type is and select the one you want to remove.
Change the contract type for the employees in the table below.
Review pending changes.
Click Apply changes when ready.
Click Confirm and apply changes.
Return to Settings, click Employment.
Under Contract types, click Edit beside the specific contract type you want to delete.
Click Delete.
Confirm removal.
If you don't have access to tables, filter the People directory using Contract type to see who it applies to. Then, open each employee's user profile and remove the contract type in Employment > Terms.
