How to set up FTP information on Instrument?

Get the FTP information from Geosens for instrument data auto-upload

1. Why Use This Function?

  • Automated Data Transfer: Set up auto-data upload from the instrument to Geosens without manual intervention.

  • Integrate seamlessly & Data Accuracy & Real-Time Process: Directly integrate accurate instrument data into the Geosens system for immediate processing and analysis.

  • Data Security: Securely store project data on the Geosens server with easy traceability.

NOTE: This FTP function is only available if the instrument equipped with FTP capabilities.


2. How to Set Up?

2.1 Option 1 - Get information from Project Info Page

  1. Navigate to Top left corner 'Setting' side bar, click on 'Project Info'.

  2. Scroll down to FTP Section.

  3. Copy the relevant information, including Server ID, User name, Password, file folders, from this Geosens page and paste it into the instrument's FTP configuration panel. This step defines the destination for auto-uploading raw data files to Geosens, enabling data processing and subsequent display.

  4. Click on 'Connect' to finish the auto-data upload FTP service in Instrument.

Application Example: Configure the site-instrument to automatically upload raw reading data files of the type "XYZ Survey Prism - Raw Reading" in .xlsx format to the specified Geosens remote storage path.

  1. To set up the overall file storage path to link to Geosens:

    • Copy FTP Server ID from Geosens -> Paste it to the 'Host' field in instrument set up

    • Copy FTP Username from Geosens -> Paste it to the 'User' field in instrument set up

    • Copy FTP Password from Geosens -> Paste it to the 'Password' field in instrument set up

  2. To set up the file storage path for a specific instrument data type:

    • Copy the FTP folder for the specific file type (e.g. XYZ Survey Prisms DATA MASTER . xlsx) -> Paste it to the 'Default remote directory' in instrument set up.

  3. Click on 'Connect' to finish the auto-data upload FTP service in Instrument.

2.2 Option 2 - Get information from Instrument Data Column Page

  1. To get the FTP information for server, user name, password:

    1. Navigate to Top left corner 'Setting' side bar, click on 'Project Info'.

    2. Scroll down to FTP Section.

    3. Copy the FTP Server ID, user name, password to the corresponding fields in Instrument FTP Panel.

  2. To get FTP information for folder directory: Navigate to Top left corner 'Setting' side bar, click on 'Instrument - Data Input Forms'. Locate to the column 'Data Folder'.

  3. Look for the specified instrument type - data input name, which should be corresponding to the instrument raw data type. You can use filter icon '' next to the header for quick name filtering.

  4. Copy the Data folder content into instrument FTP Panel - Default remote directory field.

  5. Click on 'Connect' to finish the auto-data upload FTP service in Instrument.

NOTE: Please include /PENDING as the remote directory prefix code for this project example. You can check the remote directory prefix code in the Project Info - FTP section.

Application Example: Configure the site-instrument to automatically upload raw reading data files of the type "XYZ Survey Prism - Raw Reading" in .xlsx format to the specified Geosens remote storage path.

  2. To set up the file storage path for a specific instrument data type:

    • Navigate to 'Setting - Instrument - Data Input Forms'

    • Look for the specified instrument type - data input name, which should be corresponding to the instrument raw data type. You can use filter icon '' next to the header for quick name filtering.

    • Copy the FTP folder for the specific file type (e.g. XYZ Survey Prisms DATA MASTER . xlsx) -> Paste it to the 'Default remote directory' in instrument set up.

    • Please remember to add prefix code for file directory, by referring to the prefix code set up in Project Info - FTP Section (e.g. /PENDING in this example)

  3. Click on 'Connect/OK' to finish the auto-data upload FTP service in Instrument.


3. Troubleshooting

  1. Instrument FTP set up can't find the correct host and directory:

    • Please verify that the FTP information (host, username, password) and FTP folder directory are copied correctly.

    • If you are copying the folder directory from the instrument - data input form, ensure to include the prefix code as indicated on the Project Info Page. (e.g. /PENDING for the example in this manual)
