BIM Hierarchy

Inspect the object tree of your BIMs and control visibility

Written by Jovan Harrod

The BIM hierarchy provides a structured way to navigate, manage, and control the visibility of components within your BIM model. It simplifies project management by organizing design data into layers and categories—such as architectural, structural, and services—making it easier to customize views and streamline workflows.

Tools like Tobe Builder and Tobe Maps implement this hierarchy to help users efficiently manage complex models and focus on what matters most.

How to Use the BIM Hierarchy

Navigating the Hierarchy

  • Expand and collapse nodes to move through different levels of the model.

  • This allows you to drill down into specific components or zoom out for a broader view.

Visibility Toggles

  • Use the eye icons to show or hide individual elements.

  • Hidden elements are indicated by a marker on their parent node, helping you track visibility changes.

Hide All / Show All

  • Select Hide All to hide all BIMs.

  • Click Show All to restore visibility across all BIMs.
