What is a Resource?
A resource within Tobe Builder is the digital representation of equipment, materials and people used to communicate construction methodologies, and tell a story of how infrastructure is completed.
Library and Project Resources
There are two separate but related resource menus in Tobe Builder; The global Library Resource Menu, and the project specific menu. Both menus can be filtered by group, discipline and type, and also via text search across all resource fields.
The Library Resource Menu
The library menu shows all resources available in the global library of more than 500 rigged, construction resources.
The Project Resource Menu
The Project Resource Menu shows several views of resources that have been mobilsed into the current project. Hence while the global menu may have a specific model of crawler crane, that same crane can be mobilsed 3 times into the project, and renamed to Crane 01, Crane 02 and Crane 03 for use in the virtual planning efforts.
Mobilize a Resource to the project, task and world (scene)
There are three ways to mobilize resources in virtual Builder.
Mobilize a resource for a Task.
Mobilize a resource for the project.
Mobilize a resource into the viewport.
Mobilizing to Task
When mobilizing a resource for a Task you can click and place the resource from either the Library Resource Menu or the Project Resources Menu. This will link the resource to your currently selected Task. Resources can also be placed to a task via the action button within the inspector.
Mobilizing to project
If you wish to mobilize a resource for multiple tasks you can click the Mobilized tab and drag the resource from the Resource Menu into the Mobilized menu. This Mobilizing the resource but dose not allocate any of the resource to current task. Resources can also be placed to a project via the action button within the inspector.
Mobilizing into the Viewport
If you mobilize a resource directly into the viewport it will act as if you have mobilized the resource for a task while skipping the resource setup and placement which is detailed below.
Demobilizing and Deleting Resources
Resources can also be demobilsed from a task, or demobilsed completely from the project via the "Remove" action in the inspector, or via selecting the resource and then hitting Delete on your keyboard.
Update Resource Deployment
After a resource has been mobilized you can change the deployment and information linked to a resource in the selection inspector.
Allocation:
Allocation count is how many will be mobilized to a task.
Mobilization count is how many will be mobilized to site.
Mob In and Mob Out date will default to the task start and finish from the Programme.
Layout is if you have multiple copies of the resource that you wish to place around the site in the work area.
Edit Resource Data
After a resource has been mobilized you can change the deployment and information linked to a resource in the selection inspector.
The option that can be changed are:
Resource name can be adjusted - care with duplication.
Resource Group, Discipline and Type required.
Cost Rate, Sell Rate and Day Rate (nominal 8 hrs) should be adjusted to reflect reality.
Per X units of measure indicates how many are considered at a time. For example you could mobilise 10 carpenters (Allocation Count) and their cost could be $60 per one hour each.
Fuel is optional for plant as part of the cost forecasting. Take care that it is not built into the rate of the plant already.
Plant ID is optional to match your plant register.
Production Rate commonly expressed as "Two hours per square meter of formwork" would be shown as 0.5 m2 per Hour.
Care with uniqueness and ownership of resources
It is strongly recommended to change the name of any resource such as a crane which will be non-unique. Cranes should be assigned to areas, or to work crews, and named accordingly.
If not, it is possible to mobilise say two identical 200T cranes. Users will be unclear which is which, and if the two are intended to be in separate areas, it is possible that at a Task level the wrong one will be assigned, leading to an overallocation and possible unexplained disappearence from one area when it is expected to persist between Tasks. This can be especially annoying with slings. Best to assign a name to a sling instance the same as the name of the crane it will work on.
Note that an "instance" of a resource may not immediately be evident. One instance of a resource has a given cost and production rate. If the carpenters on Task A have a different production rate to the carpenters on Task B (tasks have differing complexity) then bring the resource directly into the Task, rather than mobilising site wide and allocating to both tasks.
