How do you automatically add participant IDs to survey results?

Most professional survey platforms (including Qualtrics) offer the capacity to capture data embedded in a URL automatically. This is beneficial because it allows you to pass along information you can use to connect data collected at different points in a participant's journey.

Immersion enables the automatic collection of a participant's unique ID to survey platforms that are set up to capture embedded information. When you set up a survey to capture this embedded information ('_immdid'), the unique code will automatically be stored with the other responses the participant provides. You can use this code to import tags into the Immersion system. For more information on importing tags, check out this article!

There are two steps needed to ensure code pass-through and capture:

  • Second, make sure the follow-up survey platform is set up to accept embedded '_immdid' codes. To do this in Qualtrics, go to the survey flow and click the green '+ Add a New Element Here' button. Click the 'Embedded Data' button and where it says 'Create New Field or Choose From Dropdown...' type in '_immdid'. Now, move this element to the top of your survey flow (like in the image below). This will grab the participant's unique device ID.

  • When you test the participant experience, you will see the unique code is embedded in the redirect URL when the user is provided the link to the post-survey. In the image below, you'll see the code follows the string '_immdid='. As long as the survey platform is set to accept the code, it will be captured!
