What is the AHV number?

The AHV number is a personal identification number. It is assigned to each person once and stays with you for your entire life.

The number is used to uniquely identify you in various systems, for example with:

  • Social security institutions (AHV, IV, EO)

  • Health insurance providers

  • Employers

  • Tax authorities

  • Pension funds

The AHV number consists of 13 digits and always begins with 756.

Example

A typical AHV number looks like this:

756.1234.5678.97

This number remains the same for your entire life.
