What is a task variation?

Sometimes you might see that a task in your course is a “variation”. But what does that mean?

Some tasks have a number of variations. When you first visit that page, you’ll be randomly allocated a particular task variation.

From then on, every time you visit that page, you'll see the same task variation. Even if your task attempt is reopened or reset, you’ll get the same task variation to re-submit (unless there has been a change to the task variation you were assigned, in this case you will be assigned a new variation of the task).

The image below shows you that the task you are about to complete is a variation - highlighted in the blue box:

Why are there task variations?

Courses sometimes use variations to offer learners different case study contexts or to minimise the sharing of assessments.
