Overview of task variations

When a task has variations, learners are randomly allocated a particular task variation when they first visit that page. From then on, every time they visit that page, they see the same task variation.

Even if a learner’s task attempt is reopened or reset, they get the same task variation to re-submit (unless the task has been changed - see below).

When a variation has been edited

When an author edits or deletes a task variation and republishes the course, the original variation(s) is(are) considered “out of date” and they won’t be reassigned to any learners who have their task reset.

How to assign an updated variation to a learner

When a learner had originally submitted a (now) out of date variation and you Reset their assessed task attempt, you will be prompted to choose which of the current variations you would like to assign to the learner before selecting Reset.

As you can see in the screenshot below, you also have the option to preview the variation(s) before you assign them.

Variation options pop up where a facilitator can choose one of two variations to assign to a learner. Options are listed, with their titles, date and time created, and the option to Preview.
