Activating Licenses from a 3rd party

If you purchased a license from a reseller, e-commerce platform, or other partner — rather than directly from Iris — you'll receive a unique license code (also called a promo code) that upgrades your Studio to a paid plan.

Updated over a week ago

These codes are typically provided by authorized resellers, channel partners, or as part of a promotional offer.

Keep an eye on your email or the third-party platform where you purchased, as resellers may take a few days to send your code. If you haven't received it, reach out to the support team of the platform you purchased from directly.

What You'll Need

  • An Iris account with at least one Studio created.

  • Billing permissions on the Studio you want to upgrade — typically the Studio Owner or an Admin with billing access.

  • A valid license code from your reseller, partner, or the Iris team.

  • A web browser — the plan change and code entry happen in a secure payment portal that opens in your browser.

How to Activate Your License

  1. Go to Billing. Log into Iris, open your Studio, and navigate to Settings > Billing. You can find this using the profile dropdown in the top-right corner.

  2. Select your plan. Click Upgrade Plan (or Change Plan if you're already on a paid plan) to see available plans. Select the plan that matches your license code — for example, Standard or Pro. If your code corresponds to a specific billing cycle (monthly or yearly), make sure to select the matching frequency.

  3. Enter your license code. A secure payment portal opens in your browser. Look for the promotion code or coupon code field and enter your license code.

  4. Complete checkout. Review the discount reflected in your total. If the code covers the full cost, you won't be charged. A credit card must be on file even if the code covers the full plan cost — this is required for potential overage charges.

  5. Confirmation. After completing checkout, you're redirected back to Iris. A green "Plan Successfully Changed" notification confirms your upgrade. The Billing tab updates to show your new plan.

If a plan change is scheduled for a future date (like a downgrade), a banner appears: "Your plan will be changed on [date]. Your next estimated payment will be [amount]."

After Activation

  • Your Studio's plan is updated immediately after checkout completes.

  • The Billing tab reflects your new plan name (Standard, Pro, or special plans like "Not For Resale (NFR)").

  • Plan features — including source limits, included cloud usage, and overage rates — are determined by the plan your code unlocks.

If your Studio is already on the plan the code is for, the plan selection screen shows "Current Plan" with the button disabled. No need to re-enter the code.

Limits and Restrictions

  • Single use. Each license code can only be redeemed once. After activation, it can't be used on another Studio or account.

  • One code per Studio. A license code applies to a single Studio at a time.

  • Plan-specific. Codes are tied to specific plans. If the code doesn't match the plan you selected, it may be rejected.

  • Billing permissions required. Only users with billing access (typically the Owner) can activate a license. Others will see a permission error.

  • Credit card required. Even if the code covers the full cost, a payment method must be on file for potential overages.

  • Cannot be transferred. Once redeemed, a license code can't be moved to a different Studio. Contact support if you need assistance.

What Happens If…

…your license code is invalid or already used? The payment portal rejects the code with an error. Your plan doesn't change. Double-check for typos, and contact the party who provided the code if the issue persists.

…you close the browser before completing checkout? No changes are made. The license code remains unused and you can start the process again from the Billing tab.

…you don't have billing permissions? You won't be able to access the plan change flow. Ask your Studio Owner to activate the code, or request billing access.

…your Studio is already on the target plan? The plan selection screen shows "Current Plan" with the button disabled. No need to re-enter a code.

…your internet drops during checkout? If the payment portal doesn't complete, nothing changes. Retry once your connection is restored.

…you want to move the license to a different Studio? License codes are single-use. Once redeemed, they can't be transferred. Contact support@tryiris.ai for assistance.

…the payment portal doesn't open? Your browser may be blocking the popup. Allow popups for Iris and try again, or try a different browser.

…your license period ends? This depends on the terms of your license. Some codes provide a permanent upgrade; others are time-limited. If your subscription lapses or isn't renewed, your Studio may revert to the Free plan.

FAQs

Where do I get a license code? From authorized resellers, channel partners, or the Iris sales team. Check your purchase confirmation email or the platform where you bought it.

Can I use a license code on more than one Studio? No. Each code is single-use and can only be applied to one Studio.

What plan does my license code unlock? The plan is determined by the code itself. Your reseller or the Iris team can tell you which plan it's for. Common upgrades include Standard, Pro, and NFR (Not For Resale).

What is an NFR (Not For Resale) license? A special plan for partners, resellers, or demo purposes. It works like a paid plan but isn't intended for commercial resale. Your Billing tab will show "Not For Resale (NFR)" as the plan name.

Do I need a credit card even if the code covers everything? Yes. A credit card must be on file for potential overage charges, even if the code fully covers the subscription cost.

Can I apply a code to an existing paid plan? Yes. You can change your plan and apply a license code during checkout, even if you're already on a paid plan.

How do I know the license was activated? You'll see a green "Plan Successfully Changed" notification, and the Billing tab shows your new plan.

What happens when the license period ends? Depends on the terms. Some are permanent; others are time-limited. If not renewed, your Studio may revert to the Free plan. Review your subscription details regularly.

Can I use a license code in the Hive (PTZOptics) version? Yes. The activation process works the same way.

My code matches a plan but isn't working — what should I do? Make sure you selected the correct plan AND billing frequency (monthly vs. yearly) that matches your code. If it still doesn't work, contact the party who provided the code.
