Matching request for donations on Jgive

Updated over a week ago

This guide applies only to employees whose employer offers matching donations through Jgive for contributions made on the platform.
This does not apply to employees whose employers use a third-party platform for donation matching.

The matching program, including the maximum amount per employee eligible for matching by the employer and the excluded domains (if any) that are not eligible for matching, varies from one company to another.

How does it actually look?

If the employer matches employees’ donations through Jgive, when you make a donation from the account associated with your employer, at the second stage of the donation window, you will see a checkbox labeled 'I want my employer to match this donation'.
Make sure the checkbox is selected if you want the employer to match the donation.
Below this checkbox, a green message will appear (as long as everything is valid) with a breakdown of your current and future matching balance.

Possible Issues

  • If the nonprofit to which the donation is directed does not meet the company’s matching program eligibility criteria, the receipt will be sent to the employer for payroll tax credit purposes, but no matching request will be processed. The error will appear as follows:

  • If the donation amount exceeds the available personal matching balance, the receipt will be sent to the employer for payroll tax credit purposes, but no matching request will be processed. The error will appear as follows:

  • If there is no remaining balance available for matching, the receipt will be sent to the employer for payroll tax credit purposes, but no matching request will be processed. The error will appear as follows:

Additional Notes

  • If the company-wide maximum matching budget is fully used, the donation matching option will not appear during the donation process

  • To be eligible for matching, the donation must be made through the Jgive platform

  • The donation must be made from an account associated with the employer and sent to the employer

  • If the company has defined excluded domains that are not eligible for matching, matching requests will not be available for deposits into a personal donation fund
