At the moment, we cannot support sites that have the following:
Linear Watercourses (Culverts, Ditches, Canals, Rivers)
Sites that have any high or very high distinctiveness habitats on them. These are the habitats listed under section 41 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 that are:
highly threatened
internationally scarce
requiring conservation action
Sites that have critically Endangered European Red List habitats.
Sites that have irreplaceable habitats on them.
Evidence that European Protected Species are on them.

Applicants should alwats first check whether mandatory BNG applies. For applications made on or after 6 August 2026, consider the no-larger-than-0.2-hectare and temporary-development exemptions, as well as de minimis and other applicable exemptions.
