How to get the most out of your MCP connection (companies)

What is the KEY ESG MCP connector?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect directly to external platforms and query live data. The KEY ESG MCP connector gives AI tools read access to your company's ESG data, so you can ask questions and get accurate, up-to-date answers without exporting anything.

Once connected, your AI assistant can pull metrics, targets, action plans and policies directly from KEY ESG, and use them to answer questions, draft reports or complete questionnaires on your behalf.

If you have any feedback, please share it with support@keyesg.com.

What you can do

Answer customer and supplier questionnaires

Customer procurement portals, tenders and RFPs, supplier assessments and sustainability-linked loan applications all ask for the same ESG metrics, policies and commitments in different formats. Your AI assistant can answer them using live KEY ESG data, with no manual data extraction and no hunting through old submissions.

You can also upload questionnaire files and ask your AI assistant to complete them using your KEY ESG data. Excel questionnaires work well for this workflow. PDF questionnaires are not currently supported; we are continuing to test this and will share further guidance as we go.

Respond to investor and lender data requests

When an investor, owner or lender asks for your ESG data, ask your AI assistant to pull the figures and commentary they need straight from KEY ESG, so your response matches what is held in the platform.

Draft your sustainability report content

Ask your AI assistant to summarise your ESG performance for the year (emissions, workforce and diversity metrics, target progress and improvement initiatives) and get a structured starting point for your sustainability report, website copy or annual report section.

Generate board and leadership briefings

Before a board or leadership meeting, ask your AI assistant for an on-demand ESG summary: key metrics, target progress and current improvement initiatives, composed from live data in seconds.

Track carbon performance

Query Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and check progress against net zero or reduction targets, with status context showing whether each target is on track, at risk or missed.

Audit your ESG policies

Identify which policies are overdue for review and access policy documents directly, including a download link to each document. This is useful before a customer audit or a tender that asks you to evidence your policies.

Example prompts to try

  • "Summarise our ESG performance for 2025 in five bullet points for our sustainability report."

  • "What were our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions last year, and are we on track for our reduction target?"

  • "Here is a customer sustainability questionnaire in Excel. Fill in every question you can answer from KEY ESG and flag the ones you can't."

  • "Our lender has asked for our latest emissions and our net zero commitment. Draft a short reply using our KEY ESG data."

  • "Give me a one-page ESG update for next week's board meeting."

  • "Which of our policies are overdue for review? Include the download links."

Tips for better answers

Be specific about the period. Say which reporting year or period you mean. "Scope 2 emissions for 2025" will get a sharper answer than "our emissions".

Ask it to flag gaps, not fill them. Tell your assistant to say clearly when a figure is missing from KEY ESG rather than estimating it. This keeps the numbers you share with customers and lenders traceable to your platform data.

Ask where the numbers came from. Asking your assistant to list the metrics and periods it used makes answers easier to check.

Review before you send. Treat the output as a strong first draft. Check figures and wording before anything goes to customers, lenders, auditors or regulators.

Use Excel for questionnaires. If a questionnaire only comes as a PDF, paste the questions into the chat as text instead of uploading the file.
