Using the “Hide HL only” filter in assignments

Written by Honey Jane Santos
Updated yesterday

The “Hide HL only” filter helps you quickly find questions that are suitable for SL students when creating assignments.

This filter is available in both:

  • Question assignments

  • Exam-style question assignments

Why use this filter?

On Kognity, most questions are tagged as both SL and HL, and there are currently no “SL only” tags.

The “Hide HL only” option removes questions that are exclusively HL, making it easier to focus on content appropriate for SL students.

How to use the “Hide HL only” filter

  1. Go to Create Assignment

  2. Choose either:

    • Question assignment, or

    • Exam-style question assignment

  3. Select your topic or question bank

  4. Click on the Level filter

  5. Select Hide HL only

Filter options explained

  • All levels → Shows all questions

  • Hide HL only → Hides questions that are HL-only

  • HL only → Shows only HL questions

What to expect

  • Questions labeled SL/HL will still appear (these are suitable for both levels)

  • Only questions tagged HL only will be removed

When should I use this?

Use Hide HL only when:

  • You are teaching SL students

  • You want to avoid HL-only questions

  • You need to quickly find appropriate questions for your class
