This article has been written for the Koru Kids Nanny Service for nannies who a looking for a role with a family.

We do everything we can to help the Koru Kids platform stay safe for our nannies, like making sure that families have to create an account linked to their contact details before they can access any nanny profiles, and keeping your personal details private at all times.

If you're curious, you can see what families see when they view your profile by clicking "View public profile" under your profile picture when you log into your account.

We have alerts that allow us to investigate suspicious family profiles, and we don’t hesitate to remove anyone who behaves inappropriately or could be a scammer.

But you can help us keep the Koru Kids community safe by letting us know about anything that doesn’t feel quite right.

How to spot a scammer

Here are a few ‘red flags’ that you should be aware of:

  • Anyone offering you a different role to nannying, outside of Koru Kids

  • Anyone asking for your bank details or asking you to accept or transfer money

  • Anyone asking to pass on your contact details to someone else

This is the sort of message that should ring alarm bells. Block them and let Koru Kids know.

It’s okay to Google the families you are talking to. It’s not nosey, it’s sensible. If you’ve got yourself in a pickle agreeing to something outside Koru Kids - it’s not your fault and don’t worry! We are here for you at any point to chat things through and get back on track.

I think I've been scammed - what do I do?

If you've fallen victim to a scammer and shared any of your personal bank details, the most important step to take is for you to speak immediately and directly with your bank and explain what has happened.

They will be able to advise on what options you have to try and reclaim any money you transferred, and will also be able to ensure that there is no way the scammers can access any further funds from your account.

We would also advise that you contact Action Fraud to report the activity.

Please keep us in the loop too by reporting the scam so we can remove the family and keep other nannies safe.
