Looking at the ways that members can pay for membership

Landlord Law is a paid service, and members need to pay to get access to our main services. So how do you pay?

Members need to pay via our online process. Then, once the payment has been made, the system will set up your membership, and send out your receipt and welcome emails introducing you to the service. This is all automated and is triggered by the online payment.

So, I am afraid we cannot accept cash, cheques or payment via BACS.

Let me take you through the process. First, you need to go to > this page and select the membership type you want.

Say you want to join as a Business member, paying annually. This will cost £300 pa. You click the link, which will > take you here - see the image below:

Note by the way that the Business Membership is an individual membership - sometimes people get this confused with our 'teams' membership, which is for groups of (usually business) people with a joint membership.

You will then need to click the orange button 'sign up now'. This will take you to a page which looks like this:

If you have been given a discount coupon, put this in the 'coupon code' box and click the orange 'apply coupon' button. However, in most cases, there will be no coupon. So just click the orange 'proceed to checkout' button at the bottom.

This will take you to a page which looks like this (I had to reduce the size to copy it off the page!):

So, at the top, you put your name and address, phone number and email address.

It is particularly important that you input your email address correctly, as otherwise, all the confirmation emails and your receipt will go off to the wrong email, and you will not get them.

Below that, there is a summary of your order, and then below that, you put in your card details. This can be either a credit card or a debit card. Note that the system will set up a recurring payment using this card, so make sure you want future payments coming from this card (although you can change your card details later - we have > guidance here).

Finally, tick the terms and conditions box and then click the orange Sign Up Now button. You can just see it right at the bottom of the picture above.

The system will then take the payment, activate your membership, and send out your VAT receipt and your Welcome emails.

If you experience problems

Sometimes, people get in a muddle, and the system keeps malfunctioning for them. The reason for this is invariably something called 'caching', which we explain in > this help page. Basically, your computer takes a 'snapshot' of the payment page the first time you go there, and then keeps showing that snapshot when you try to join again rather than taking you to the actual page.

The only way to deal with this is to start again using either a different internet browser (so if you were using Chrome, try Firefox) or an 'incognito' or private page.

If you still experience problems, send us a help message via our Green Button messenger service (you can see it bottom right of your screen or see our > help page here), and we will see what we can do.
