Understanding our preventive care budget
Lassie pet insurance provides a dedicated preventive care budget to support your pet’s regular health and wellness needs. This annual budget can be used for a range of preventive services, depending on the plan you choose. Here, we outline everything you need to know about what is covered and how to use this benefit effectively.
What is the Preventive Care Budget?
The preventive care budget is an allocation provided by Lassie pet insurance that covers routine and wellness-focused expenses for your pet. It begins from the start of your insurance coverage and does not require a waiting period for utilization. The coverage amount varies by plan:
Mini Plan: Up to €35 per insurance year
Midi Plan: Up to €100 per insurance year
Maxi Plan: Up to €140 per insurance year
Services Covered by the Preventive Care Budget
The budget can be used for a variety of services and products, designed to keep your pet healthy. Covered services include, and are limited to:
Vaccinations: Including basic immunization for young animals, booster shots, and mandatory or non-mandatory vaccinations.
Identification: Such as microchipping or tattoos.
General Health Check-Ups: Routine visits unrelated to symptoms or illnesses.
Preventive Dental Care: Including scaling and tartar removal.
Parasite Prevention: Deworming, flea, and tick treatments (with veterinary prescriptions).
Castration and Sterilization: Covered without medical indications under the Maxi plan only.
Additional Services: Nail trimming, anal gland expression, issuance of EU pet passports, and hygiene products such as toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Using the Preventive Care Budget
The preventive care budget provides flexibility in its use, allowing policyholders to allocate it across different eligible expenses as needed throughout the year. Here’s how it works:
Submit invoices for eligible veterinary services.
Reimbursement is calculated against your chosen plan’s allowance (e.g., €100 annually with the Midi plan).
Deductibles apply to all preventive care claims.
Example
If a vaccination consultation costs €35 and your annual limit is €100, Lassie will reimburse €35, leaving €65 to be used for other preventive expenses.
If you have a 20% deductible, Lassie will reimburse €28 of the €35, leaving €72 for other expenses.
Budget Exclusions and Limits
While Lassie’s preventive care budget covers a broad range of services, certain exclusions apply:
Non-Covered Items: Products such as food supplements, and over-the-counter treatments are not eligible.
Cost Overages: Any costs exceeding the annual budget must be covered by you, the policyholder.
Blood, urine, or stool tests: Even if done preventively (e.g. blood test for older cats to check for kidney values, stool tests for parasite detection), these tests are not included in the preventive budget.
Services not explicitly listed in the insurance terms and conditions under paragraph 2.3.f. do not qualify for reimbursement.
Important Considerations
Bills dated before the start of your insurance policy are not eligible for coverage.
If preventive care reveals a health issue requiring further treatment, those costs may fall under Lassie’s illness and accident plan.
