We categorize the reimbursement of veterinary costs into treatment costs, surgical costs, and preventive care services:
Definition: Treatment (Heilbehandlung/Behandlungskosten)
Treatment costs include assessing and addressing a pet’s health condition, such as treating an illness or injury without the need for surgery.
Examples include wound care that doesn’t require surgery or treating a digestive issue like diarrhea. 😊
Definition: Surgery (Operation)
A surgery is a surgical procedure where the skin or underlying tissue is incised beyond a pinpoint opening. This also includes urgent pain-relieving dental treatments, such as tooth extractions. (Please note the special waiting period for FORL, as outlined in section 2.2.1.)
Definition: Preventive Care (Vorsorge)
Regardless of medical necessity, the following veterinary services are covered or subsidized under the preventive care budget, up to the maximum limit specified in your plan:
Mini: €35 per insurance year
Midi: €100 per insurance year
Maxi: €140 per insurance year
Covered preventive services include:
Issuance of an EU pet passport, including microchipping or tattooing
Health checks and preventive exams
Vaccinations
Deworming treatments
Flea and tick prevention (must be prescribed by a vet; the invoice must include details such as the pet’s name, breed, and microchip number to ensure reimbursement for the insured pet)
Neutering or spaying without medical indication (only included in the Maxi plan)
Dental care, including tartar removal
Nail trimming
Anal gland expression
