VAC Touch Screen Monitor Replacement Instructions

Especially for rear-access VACs, you will need TWO people for this operation - one behind the VAC and one in front, holding the monitor, so that it doesn't fall out once the fasteners are removed.

Required Parts

  • 15" Touch Monitor with new HDMI and USB cable - Part #: 03-01-21:

Installation Steps

Step 1 - Power off the VAC kiosk

It is always recommended to power the machine off before replacing any components.

Step 2 - Unmount the VAC Control Board

Remove the screws holding the VAC control board, and pull board away from the VAC cabinet:

This will give you access to all fasteners holding the touch screen monitor to the VAC Kiosk.

In most cases, you do not need to remove any cables from the VAC control board to gain access to the monitor's mounting screws:

Note: The above picture demonstrates a control board being unmounted while it is still powered ON.

However, This is NOT recommended!

Always power OFF the VAC when it's main control board is being unmounted from the VAC cabinet.

Step 3 - Replace the Touch Screen Monitor

With the VAC control board unmounted, you'll be able to access the 4 screws holding the old monitor to the VAC cabinet.

It is recommended to have 2 people for this step, so the monitor doesn't drop when removing all mounting screws

Install the new Touch Monitor using the same 4 mounting screws, and remount the VAC control board.

Step 4 - Replace External Monitor Controller (optional)

This step is NOT required, and is only applicable to VACs equipped with the older 1st Generation VAC Control Boards.

2nd Generation VAC control boards have their Monitor Controller built into the control board directly:

If you were provided with a new External Monitor Controller, then replace existing one.

An External Monitor Controller looks like this:

Step 5 - Connect Touch Monitor Cabling

Reconnect the three Touch Screen Monitor cables to the bottom of the touch monitor itself:

  • HDMI cable

  • USB cable (see note below)

  • 12Vdc power supply

The other ends of the HDMI and USB cable will either:

  • plug into the VAC Control board directly (on 2nd Generation VAC4 Control boards)

  • plug into the External Monitor Controller (1st Generation VAC3 Control boards).

You can use your other VAC to cross-check the connectivity if it's also a touch screen VAC, with the same generation control board.

You can also consult our VAC Control Board Connectivity article to see where all VAC control board cables are connected.

For the current generation of VAC Control board (2nd Generation VAC4 boards), below shows the HDMI and USB connections for the VAC control board:

Notes on potential USB cable Differences

Older (Version 1) Monitors use a VGA-style USB connector shown below:

Version 1 Monitors have their power LED, and buttons, facing outwards (towards the back of the VAC):

While existing production monitors (which will be the version you'll receive as a replacement) uses standard USB Type B cable.

A standard USB Type B looks like this:

Version 2 Monitors have their power LED, and buttons, facing upwards (towards the ceiling):

You should've been provided a standard USB Type B cable with the new Monitor, and a standard USB Type B cable will be needed in order to connect the new Monitor to your VAC Control board, or External Monitor Controller's USB connection.

If you are using the older style External Monitor Controllers, you will need to continue using the micro HDMI cable, but will use the new USB Type B cable:

If you have the newer version of the External Monitor Controller, you can use both the new HDMI and USB Type B cables that come with the new Monitor:
