Alliance: Netmaster Washer (SCxxN)

Installation guide for Net master Speed Queen / Huebsch Washers

K
Written by Kurt Bernhard

This installation guide covers Speed-Queen/Huebsch Washers with Netmaster controls. The Card Reader uses Pulse control through a designated pulse interface on the machine's control board. Some example model numbers include SC18NP20M4002, NC27NP20M4002 and more.

Shown above is a card-ready version with an ESD reader - just for reference

Required Parts

  • Card Reader Kit (for Card Only install)

    • The reader board type MUST be "Generic Serial" - Part #: ASSY-02-02-10:

Installation Steps

Step 0: Number the machines in the location

Before proceeding, it is recommended that you assign numbers and labels to each machines in the laundry room/building.

Step 1: Turn Machine Power OFF

It is always recommended to power the machine off before install the card readers.

Step 2: Number the reader using the DIP switches

Review our: Reader DIP Switch settings article for details on how to set the Card Reader's Machine Type, and Reader Number.

You need to do this BEFORE mounting the Card Readers onto the machines, as accessing the back of the card reader is required.

Step 3: Remove Coin Drop (Card-Only Installs)

Skip this step if you're doing a Hybrid (Coin + Card) installation.

For Card Only installs, remove the Coin Drop (or other Card Reader) from the machine. The Card Reader's will mount to the section where the Coin Drop has been removed/is normally installed.

Step 4: Reader Signal and Power Wire Connections

Card-Only

Connect the two Card Reader wiring harness connectors to the H6 and H9 headers on the machine's control board as shown below:

Hybrid (Coin + Card)

You will need to splice the green and white wires from the reader's cable harness to the existing coin drop wires. These will need to be the coin drop's Common (Ground/GND) wire and Signal wire. If you do not have a schematic and your coin drop has three wires, you will need to try different combinations to identify the correct pair that is needed to send a pulse signal to the machine.

For power, you will need to connect the barrel plug from the reader's cable harness to the 12V adapter. Connect this power supply to an available outlet. Otherwise, splice the power supply to 110V/220Vac and connect the 12Vdc plug to the mating plug on the harness.

When connecting to the machine directly, you'll be cutting off the AC prong, and splicing these wires directly to the machine (we recommend consulting the manufacturer, or an electrician, to confirm this type of connection).

Step 5: Activate the Card Reader

Proceed to secure the reader to the machine and then Activate the Card Reader using the Activation Card for this specific location:

Note: you MUST use the Activation Card for THIS SPECIFIC LOCATION,
or else the card reader will not appear on the LaundroPortal for this location.

This will activate the reader and programs the reader with the location's specific Support and Location IDs.

The Card Reader will then automatically connect to VAC01's wireless network and once connected, will be visible on the LaundroPortal where you can configure it's vend prices

Step 6: Configure the Machine to Start from 1 Pulse

Enter the machine's programming menu and enable the Single Pulse mode in the Start Pulse Mode, if not already enabled (when converting from coin drops, this will always be required - but the setting may already be enabled if a different card system was installed).

Enabling Single Pulse mode is done by changing setting number "124" to the value "128":

If the machine is NOT in Single Pulse mode, then pulses sent by the Card Reader will only take a portion of the payment of the vend price of the machine (usually $0.25) as opposed to satisfying the machine's full vend price allowing it to start from 1 tap of a Laundry Card

Vend Prices

The Card Reader's Vend price is set through the LaundroPortal.

Because the Card Reader has no way of knowing what cycle options are being selected, only a single vend price is supported. All machine cycle options must cost the same amount.

On the washing machine itself, the vend price is irrelevant (assuming the machine is configured for single pulse mode).

If you'd like the machine's display to show the same price that the card reader is charging, you'll need to configure the price on the machine itself, as well as price the Card Reader via the LaundroPortal.

However you may want to set the displayed vend price to "1" to avoid having to synchronize the machine's displayed price, with the vend price the Card Reader is displaying/charging, whenever a price update occurs.

Troubleshooting

Below are common problems specific to this machine type during installation.

For more general reader troubleshooting, see the Reader Troubleshooting section of the Help Center

Issue

Explanation and resolution

Reader always shows "BUSY" (machine is not running)

1. On the Washer, confirm that setting "124" is set to value "128"

2. Check the harness connections carefully. It's possible a connector got flipped or installed on wrong machine header.

Machine not receiving pulse after reader control type change

In certain Hybrid installs when changing the pulse control type within the reader settings, especially to Universal Pulse [29], the readers firmware will need to be updated. The machine will then need to be powered down for at least 30 seconds to allow the machine to sync with the new reader settings. Otherwise, the machine not recognize the first pulse sent by the reader.
