Wascomat: Gen5 and Gen6 Washers

K
Written by Kurt Bernhard

This installation guide covers the old Gen5 and Gen6 Washers. Some example model numbers include W125, W675 and more.

These are non-electronic, high voltage machines. The reader kit comes with a High Voltage Relay to control the machine's timer. The reader is powered by a separate AC-DC power supply adapter (provided with the kit). The kit also contains a High Voltage sensor used for the Card Reader to be able to determine whether the Washer's door is open or closed.

Required Parts

  • Card Reader Kit

    • The reader board MUST be "Voltage Relay" - Part #: ASSY-02-02-08

  • High Voltage Relay (to start the Mechanical timer)

    • Part # 03-01-75

  • High Voltage Sensor box (to determine the whether door is open or closed)

    • Part # HV-SENSOR-01

  • Card Reader Wiring Harness

    • Part # 02-06-79

  • 4-wire Cable Connector (used with High Voltage Sensor and High Voltage Relay)

    • Part # 02-06-97

  • 12V External Power Supply Adapter

    • Part # 03-01-46

Installation Steps

It is CRITICAL that the high-voltage sensor, which senses the door open/close state, be installed correctly. Otherwise, if the door is open, the reader will still take money from the card and the vend will NOT be registered with the machine.

Step 0: Number the machines in the location

Before proceeding, it is recommended that you assign numbers and labels to each machines in the laundry room/building.

Step 1: Turn Machine Power OFF

It is always recommended to power the machine off before install the card readers.

Step 2: Number the reader using the DIP switches

In order to configure a Card Reader to report as a specific Washer or Dryer number, you need to set the reader's DIP Switches to specific positions. These DIP Switches ONLY affect what the reader will display as for it's machine type (Washer/Dryer) and it's machine number:

Review our: Reader DIP Switch settings article for details on how to set the Card Reader's Machine Type, and Reader Number.

You need to do this BEFORE mounting the Card Readers onto the machines, as accessing the back of the card reader is required.

Step 3: Remove the Coin Drop (For Card-Only Installs)

The Card Reader will be mounted in the area where the Coin Drop has been removed.

Step 4: Card Reader Pulse/Start Connection

Card Only Installations (click to expand)

If using the current generation of our Card Reader wiring harness,

simply connect the machine's X121 plug into the mating connector on the Card Reader's harness:

If you have the older generation Card Reader wiring harness, follow the instructions in the Hybrid install section

Hybrid (Coin + Card) Installations (click to expand)

If you're using an older generation Card Reader wiring harness, or installing a new generation harness in a Hybrid configuration:

For older Card Reader harnesses that do not have the mating plug, you will need to splice to the wires.

The two red output wires of the High Voltage relay should be connected to PINS 5 and 6 on connector X21 on the machine's control board.

There should be an existing wire harness connecting X21 to an empty connector X121.

Simply splice the relay's output wires to these two wires. This is shown below:

Step 5: High Voltage Sensor Connection

It is CRITICAL that the high-voltage sensor, which senses the door open/close state, be installed correctly. Otherwise, if the door is open, the reader will still take money from the card and the vend will NOT be registered with the machine because it's door is open.

If a card is place on the Card Reader, while the machine's door is open and the High Voltage sensor is correctly indicating the door is open to the card reader, the reader will NOT charge that Laundry Card.

This forces customers to need to have the door closed before their Laundry Card is charged.

Note the High Voltage wire connection varies between Gen5, and Gen6 models

Gen 6 Models - HV Sensor Connection (click to expand)

Splice the two High Voltage sensor wires across wires on pins 2 and 4 on connector X30:

Gen 5 Models - HV Sensor Connection (click to expand)

Find the large connector on the bottom of the timer.

Use the 2 closest wires to the front of the Washer, as shown below:

Step 6: Card Reader Power Connection

Connect the 120Vac side of the external power supply, either to an available wall outlet, or splice the power supply directly to the machine, using an appropriate high-voltage connection inside the machine.

When connecting to the machine directly, you'll be cutting off the AC prong, and splicing these wires directly to the machine (we recommend consulting the manufacturer, or an electrician, to confirm this type of connection).

Step 7: Activate the Card Reader

Proceed to secure the reader to the machine, where the Coin Drop was removed and then Activate the card reader using the Activation Card for this specific location:

Note: you MUST use the Activation Card for THIS SPECIFIC LOCATION,
or else the card reader will not appear on the LaundroPortal for this location.

This will activate the reader and programs the reader with the location's specific Support and Location IDs.

The Card Reader will then automatically connect to VAC01's wireless network and once connected, will be visible on the LaundroPortal where you can configure it's vend prices.

Setting Vend Pricing

This is set remotely via the LaundroPortal.

For additional information about machine vend pricing, review our Configuring Card Reader/Machine Vend Prices article.

Troubleshooting

Below are problems commonly encountered during installation of readers these model machines.

For more general card reader troubleshooting, see the Card Reader Troubleshoot section of our Help Center.

Issue

Explanation and resolution

Reader always says Close Door to Start, even though the washer door is closed

This is a problem either with the High Voltage sensor, Or the connection to connector X30 on the machine.

Double check the connections to pin 2 and pin 4 and try swapping the High Voltage sensor from a working washer.

Card Reader says Close Door, when door is closed, but is ready for payment when the door is open

Some versions of these machines send the inverse signal for when the door is open vs when it's closed.

Contract the Laundroworks support team so we can inverse the signal through the Card Reader's settings
