K
Written by Kurt Bernhard

This installation guide covers L-series Washers. These readers use Pulse communication to trigger payment on the machine. Some common model numbers include L1125, L1075, L1040 and more.

Required Parts

  • Card Reader Kit

    • The reader board MUST be "Generic Relay" - Part #: ASSY-02-02-11

  • Card Reader Wiring Harness

    • Part #: 02-06-56

  • 12V External Power Supply Adapter

    • Part #: 03-01-46

  • High Voltage Sensor box (to determine the whether door is open or closed)

    • Part # HV-SENSOR-01

Installation Steps

Step 1: Turn Machine Power Off

It is always recommended to power the machine off before install the card readers.

Step 2: Remove coin-drop (For Card-Only Installs)

The Card Reader will be mounted in the area where the Coin Drop has been removed.

Step 3: Number the Card Reader using the reader's DIP switches:

Review our: Reader DIP Switch settings article for details on how to set the Card Reader's Machine Type, and Reader Number.

You need to do this BEFORE mounting the Card Readers onto the machines, as accessing the back of the card reader is required.

Step 4: Card Reader Pulse/Start Connection

Open the machine and locate the brown wires with female spade connectors as shown below.

There should be BLUE wires coming from X9-7 and X9-11 on the machine;

these wires may be loose or going to an existing coin drop. Disconnect them from the Coin-drop if needed.

Connect these two blue wires to the GREEN and WHITE wires (called the START wires) on the provided Card Reader wiring harness

On L1125, L1075 model machines:

On L1040 models, the wires might be 37 and 38

Step 5: High Voltage Sensor Connection

Locate the two blue wires with female spade connectors with as shown in the step above. Connect these wires to the two red wires from the provided High Voltage sensor box.

Step 6: Reader Power Connection

Connect the 12V power supply to an available outlet. Otherwise, splice the power supply to 110V/220Vac and connect the 12Vdc plug to the mating plug on the harness.

When connecting to the machine directly, you'll be cutting off the AC prong, and splicing these wires directly to the machine (we recommend consulting the manufacturer, or an electrician, to confirm this type of connection).

Step 7: Step 7: Activate the Card Reader

Proceed to secure the reader into the place where the Coin drop was removed and power ON the machine.

Then Activate the card reader using the Activation Card for this specific location:

Note: you MUST use the Activation Card for THIS SPECIFIC LOCATION,
or else the card reader will not appear on the LaundroPortal for this location.

This will activate the reader and programs the reader with the location's specific Support and Location IDs.

The Card Reader will then automatically connect to VAC01's wireless network and once connected, will be visible on the LaundroPortal where you can configure it's vend prices

Setting Vend Pricing

Set Vend pricing via the LaundoPortal.

Note that the reader, is emulating a coin drop, and ONLY sends one pulse to trigger the machine to start, so you need to configure the machine to start a cycle off of this ONE pulse.

For additional information about machine vend pricing, review our Configuring Card Reader/Machine Vend Prices article.

Troubleshooting

Below are problems commonly encountered during installation of readers on these machines.

Issue

Explanation and resolution

Reader takes money, but machine cycle does not start

Confirm you have configured the machine to start off of a single pulse.

Check the machine's display when making a payment with the card reader. If the machine's vend price goes down by $0.25, the Card Reader is installed correctly, but the machine needs to be configured to start from 1 Pulse/"coin".

You can do this by adjusting the machine's coin value setting to equal the full vend price of the machine; or set the machine's vend price to $0.25
