How to Set Up Student Profiles

Updated this week

TL;DR: The Student Profile is the heart of your LearnSpark experience. By entering your child's interests and learning levels, SparkAI personalizes every lesson to fit them perfectly.

The student profile is the center of everything you do in LearnSpark. It combines what you know about your child with SparkAI data to create a learning journey made just for them.

By keeping this profile updated, you make sure every lesson, project, and adventure stays at the right level. It helps SparkAI match your student's passions and current skills.

Adding a New Student

Starting a profile is a simple process. It helps the platform understand where your child should begin their learning.

  1. Access the Students Page: Look at your dashboard and click Students in the left-hand menu.

  2. Create the Profile: Click the + Add New Student button in the top-right corner. (You can also pick Add Demo Student to see how it works with sample info!)

  3. Basic Information: Enter the student's name, birthday, and Academic Age. The birth date helps SparkAI set the right starting level, while the Academic Age tells us where they are currently working.

  4. Learning Style: Select how your child learns best (like Visual, Auditory, or Kinetic). SparkAI uses this to change how it presents information.

  5. Subject & Language Focus: Choose the subjects you want to focus on. Set their native language and any other languages they are learning.

  6. Curriculum Settings: Pick your country and Curriculum. This ensures all lessons match your local standards and helps with Gap Analysis later.

Customizing the Learning Experience

The real magic happens when you customize the profile. This is how SparkAI learns to adapt to your specific student.

  • Operating vs. Expected Levels: You can see and change your student's level for each subject. If your student is ahead in math but needs extra help in reading, you can adjust these manually. SparkAI uses these "operating levels" to create the right challenge.

  • Interests & Hobbies: Add things your child loves, like "dinosaurs" or "Minecraft." SparkAI will weave these into lessons to make them more fun!

  • Special Educational Needs (SEN): You can turn on settings for things like ADHD, Dyslexia, or Autism. SparkAI uses this information to change the pace of lessons or suggest different types of activities.

  • Adventure Profiles: If you are worldschooling, you can add notes about family values, food allergies, or physical limits. This helps SparkAI suggest activities that match your location and your family’s unique needs.

💡 Good to know: The more information you add to the Interests section, the more engaging your lessons will be. SparkAI loves to use your child's favorite topics to explain hard concepts!

The Student Dashboard: Viewing Progress

To see a student's profile, just click on their card from the Students page. This is your home base for their data:

  • Profile Overview: A quick look at their current levels, needs, and interests.

  • Performance & Mastery: This shows how they are doing against their big goals. SparkAI uses Skills Decomposition to break big subjects down into tiny, manageable steps.

  • Learning Journeys: A visual map that shows how your student is growing over time across different subjects and milestones.

  • Evidence & Reports: You can import documents and evidence of learning directly into the student's profile for SparkAI to analyze.

How the Student Profile Evolves

Your student's profile isn't something you just set up once. SparkAI works in the background to keep their Mastery Profile current.

Every time you give feedback or log an activity, the platform updates. It learns from your child’s successes and struggles. As your student grows, the platform's difficulty grows with them!

⚠️ Heads up: Background tasks like updating Mastery Profiles and performing Gap Analysis use SparkAI credits. You can monitor your usage in your account settings.

Managing Profiles

You can manage your students at any time by clicking the three-dot menu (⋮) on their card:

  • Edit Profile: Update their interests or levels as they reach new milestones.

  • Archive: If a student has finished their studies, you can archive them. This hides them from your dashboard but keeps their records safe for reports.

  • Notes: Use this space for any extra thoughts, like how they are feeling or specific family goals.

Great job! You are now ready to build a personalized learning world for your student.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Academic Age and Operating Level?

Academic Age is a general setting for the student's overall level. Operating Level is subject-specific. For example, a student might have an Academic Age of 8, but an Operating Level of 10 in Math.

Can I change my student's learning level after I set it?

Yes! You can edit the Operating Level at any time. If a student finds a subject too easy or too hard, manually adjusting the level tells SparkAI to change the difficulty for future lessons.

Does SparkAI update the profile automatically?

Yes. As you complete lessons and provide feedback, SparkAI automatically updates the Mastery Profile. This looks at the skills your child has mastered and identifies what they should work on next.

Do profile updates use my SparkAI credits?

Yes. SparkAI credits are used for "behind-the-scenes" work like Gap Analysis and updating the Mastery Profile. This ensures your child's data is always accurate and personalized.

What happens if I archive a student?

Archiving a student removes them from your main dashboard view. However, all of their progress and historical data are saved. You can still access this info later if you need to create a report for compliance.
