What is a Learning Journey?
A Learning Journey is a visual roadmap for a specific subject or skill area. For example, you might have a "Mastering Fractions" journey or a "Creative Writing: The Hero’s Journey" map. Instead of just looking at a list of daily tasks, you can see a timeline of major achievements.
Understanding Milestones
Milestones are the "checkpoints" within a journey. Think of them as the big mountain peaks on a map. When you create a journey, SparkAI helps you break down a big goal into these smaller, reachable steps.
Visual Progress: As students complete lessons and projects, the milestone markers change color or fill up.
Automatic Updates: You don't have to manually check boxes. SparkAI looks at the work your student does in Lessons and Projects to update their progress.
Historical Context: You can look back at past milestones to see exactly when a student mastered a specific concept.
SparkAI and Your Next Steps
One of the best parts of Learning Journeys is the Next Steps engine. SparkAI looks at your student’s current position on their journey and their performance in recent activities.
If a student is struggling with a milestone, SparkAI might suggest a Quick Activity to build confidence. If they finish a milestone early, it will suggest more challenging Projects to keep them engaged. This ensures the journey stays personalized to their unique pace.

How to Start a New Journey
Open the Journey Planner from your sidebar.
Select the student you want to create a path for.
Enter a primary goal or choose a subject area.
Click Generate Journey. SparkAI will draft a series of milestones based on your student’s current learning level and your selected curriculum.
Review the milestones and click Accept. Your journey is now live!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change a Journey after SparkAI creates it?
Yes! You are always in control. You can edit, delete, or add custom milestones to any journey at any time by clicking the "Edit Journey" button on the top right of the map.
Do Learning Journeys use up SparkAI credits?
Generating a new journey and having SparkAI analyze progress to suggest next steps does use credits. However, simply viewing your existing journeys is free.
How many Journeys can one student have at once?
There is no hard limit! Most families find it best to have 3-5 active journeys per student to keep things organized without feeling overwhelmed.
What happens when a student finishes a Journey?
Great job! The journey moves to the "Completed" tab. SparkAI will then suggest a "Sequel Journey" to help the student continue their growth in that subject area.
