How to Set Teaching Boundaries for Collaborators

Updated over a week ago

TL;DR: You can stay in control of your child's education by setting boundaries that limit what caregivers or tutors can see, edit, or teach within LearnSpark.

When you invite a caregiver, nanny, or tutor to your account, you want them to focus on the right things. Teaching Boundaries allow you to stay in the driver's seat. You get to decide exactly which subjects and lessons are available for others to teach.

This ensures that your family values and educational goals are always met. Even when you aren't leading the lesson, the LearnSpark experience stays consistent. That's a great way to maintain peace of mind!

How to Set Up Teaching Boundaries

To manage what a collaborator can do, go to your Account Settings. Select the Collaborators tab and follow these simple steps:

  1. Find the name of the person you want to manage.

  2. Click Manage Permissions.

  3. Find the Teaching Boundaries section.

  4. Toggle the Lesson Approval Required switch to "On" if you want to review content first.

  5. Select specific Approved Subjects (like Math or Science) that they are allowed to teach.

  6. Click Save Changes to update their account access.

πŸ’‘ Good to know: If you don't approve a subject, it won't appear on the caregiver's dashboard at all!

Approving Specific Lessons

If you turn on "Lesson Approval Required," SparkAI will generate lessons as usual. However, they will stay in a "Pending" state. Your caregiver will not see or start these lessons until you give the green light.

To approve a lesson, visit your Weekly Schedule. Look for a small yellow icon on lessons that need review. Click the lesson, read the content, and hit Approve for Teaching. The lesson will then appear instantly on the caregiver's schedule.

Locking Lesson Content

Sometimes you may want a nanny to teach a lesson without changing the details. By using the Lock Content feature, you stop others from regenerating the lesson. This keeps the lesson text exactly how you want it.

This is a great tool for maintaining a steady learning path. It prevents accidental changes to the teaching style or the difficulty level. You can rest easy knowing the plan is being followed exactly.

⚠️ Heads up: Locking a lesson prevents your caregiver from using SparkAI to change things on the fly. Double-check that the difficulty is right before you lock it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set different boundaries for different caregivers?

Yes! Every person you invite can have their own unique boundaries. You might want a nanny to handle Art while a tutor handles Math.

Will my caregiver see my billing or subscription info?

No. Collaborators cannot see your billing information or SparkAI credit balance. They only see the students and lessons you give them permission to see.

What happens if I forget to approve a lesson?

The lesson will stay hidden from the caregiver. If they log in and see an empty schedule, check your Weekly Schedule for any pending approvals!

Can caregivers log progress when boundaries are on?

Yes! If they have permission to teach a lesson, they can still record notes. This help SparkAI keep your child's Mastery Profile up to date.
