How to Use Learning Journeys and Milestones

Updated this week

TL;DR: Learning Journeys help you map out your child's education with clear milestones. SparkAI uses these to create a personalized path that matches your student's level, interests, and progress.

Setting goals helps you and your student feel confident about the progress you're making. In LearnSpark, these paths are called Learning Journeys. They give SparkAI the instructions it needs to build lessons that keep your student moving forward at just the right pace.

Creating a Learning Journey

You can start a new journey directly from the Student Profile. SparkAI looks at what your student already knows and what they need to learn next to suggest the best steps. That's it — you're all set to start planning!

  1. Go to the Students section in the sidebar and click on a student's name.

  2. Find and click the Learning Journeys tab.

  3. Click the Generate Plan button to let SparkAI suggest a path.

  4. Pick your subjects: Choose the areas you want to focus on, like Math, Science, or English.

  5. Choose a timeframe: Decide if this journey is for a few weeks or a whole school year.

  6. Check academic levels: Make sure the Operating Level on the profile is correct so the goals are a perfect fit.

💡 Good to know: Creating journeys and updating milestones uses SparkAI credits. This covers the work the system does to break down complex skills and map them to educational standards.

Checking Your Milestones

Once you generate a journey, SparkAI creates milestones. These are small, achievable steps that lead toward a bigger goal. You have total control over these steps:

  • Edit or rewrite: If a milestone isn't quite right, you can click it to change the text yourself.

  • Get new ideas: You can ask SparkAI to suggest a different milestone if you want to try a different teaching approach.

  • Add your own: You can manually type in your own milestones to make sure you're covering specific family topics or local requirements.

Tracking Progress and Next Steps

When you have a Learning Journey set up, SparkAI knows exactly what to teach next. Every lesson it generates will stay inside the path you've chosen. This helps personalize your LearnSpark experience to fit your family's unique needs.

Each journey includes visual progress indicators so you can see exactly how far your student has come. As they complete milestones, SparkAI will also suggest the next best steps to take, ensuring you never have to guess what to do next.

Great job on helping your student stay on track! Watching those progress bars fill up is a wonderful way to celebrate your hard work together. As milestones are completed, they will automatically update your student's Mastery Profile too.

⚠️ Heads up: If you run out of credits while generating a plan, the app will ask you to top up or upgrade so your journey isn't interrupted.
