How to Mix and Match Multiple Curriculums

Updated this week

TL;DR: LearnSpark lets you combine different teaching styles and standards into one plan. SparkAI identifies any gaps between your resources to make sure your student meets their goals while you teach your own way.

Many families do not stick to just one textbook or one way of teaching. You might love a specific Math guide but prefer a nature-based approach for Science. This is often called an Eclectic Approach.

LearnSpark is designed to be flexible. The platform helps you blend your favorite resources into one organized plan. You can mix and match to find what works best for your LearnSpark experience.

How SparkAI Bridges the Gap

When you use many different books, it can be hard to know if you are missing important skills. SparkAI solves this by looking at all your imported guides at once. It performs a Gap Analysis across your different resources.

SparkAI identifies which skills are covered by your Math book and which ones are handled by your History projects. If there is a "gap" where no book is teaching a required standard, SparkAI will suggest a custom lesson to fill that hole.

πŸ’‘ Good to know: You can upload different curriculum PDFs for the same student. SparkAI treats them as one unified learning goal for your student's profile!

How to Mix and Match Curriculums

To start combining your different resources, follow these steps to find the Custom Curriculums tool:

  1. On desktop, click Settings in the sidebar. On mobile, open the menu and tap Settings.

  2. Find and tap the Custom Curriculums card.

  3. Upload your first curriculum choice, such as a subject guide or a specific framework.

  4. Click Add New again to upload a second or third framework.

  5. SparkAI will begin analyzing the documents to see how they fit together.

  6. Visit the Performance tab to see Standards Progress bars. These show how these different topics are being covered.

πŸ’‘ Quick Tip: If you don't see the Custom Curriculums card in your settings, just send us a message! We'll happily enable it for your account.

Personalizing Your Teaching Style

A mixed approach isn't just about what you teach, but how you teach it. You might want Science to be hands-on but English to be very structured.

When you generate a lesson, you can choose a specific Education Style or philosophy. SparkAI uses your choice to write the lesson so it matches your family's values. This ensures that your lessons feel consistent and personalized.

⚠️ Heads up: If two curriculums overlap (like both teaching basic addition), SparkAI will recognize this. You won't have to teach the same thing twice!

By blending your favorite resources, you can create a truly unique education for your student. Great job making learning your own!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a curriculum that isn't already in the library?

Yes! You can upload any PDF curriculum document. SparkAI will read it and map it to your student's progress just like any other resource.

Will mixing curriculums confuse the Gap Analysis?

Not at all. SparkAI is designed to handle multiple sources. It looks for the underlying skills in every document and organizes them into a single list of goals.

What if my curriculums use different grade levels?

That is perfectly fine. LearnSpark focuses on Skill Mastery rather than age. SparkAI will track where your student is in each subject regardless of the "grade level" on the book.

Does this use SparkAI credits?

Yes, analyzing a new curriculum and managing gap analysis uses credits. The platform will prompt you if you are getting close to your limits.

What happens if I change my mind later?

You can add or remove curriculums at any time. SparkAI will recalculate your progress and show you any new gaps that might appear in the Performance tab.
