[New] Use the Timeline tab on the Matter detail page

This article explains what you can do with the [Timeline] tab on the matter detail page, including how to view and interact with updates and communications related to a matter.


What is the Timeline?

The Timeline tab allows you to view communications and activity history related to a matter, all in one place.


Requirements

Supported File Types:
Refer to “Supported file types for uploading to LegalOn”.

Sending via Email

~10MB total

Sending via Timeline

100MB per file

200MB total

10 files max

File name limit

Up to 200 characters (including extension)


What you can do on the Timeline

The Timeline displays and supports a range of actions:

Messaging

  • Send, edit, and delete messages

  • Send and receive emails

  • Attach files to messages or emails

  • Download attached files

  • Open file details for attached files

Note: Files from workspaces you don’t have access to cannot be viewed or downloaded. Contact your IT administrator for access settings.

Activity Events (History)

Turn on the [Show detailed history] toggle below the message box to view:

  • Matter creation (via email, internal forms, or intake form)

  • Matter title updates

  • Assignment or change of assignee

  • Due date setting or changes

  • Status changes

Working with attached files in the Timeline

You can perform actions directly from the file buttons displayed alongside attachments.

Button

Description

Version Management

Shown for files with no versions. Allows you to consolidate versions. See "How to merge file versions in LegalOn".

Compare with Previous version

Shown for files with multiple versions. Allows you to compare the current and previous versions. See "How to compare contracts".

Review

Available if you have a Review license. Opens the file editor to check for legal risks. See "Review: Overview and how to use it".

Edit

Shown if no Review license is available. Allows contract editing in the file editor. See "How to edit contracts directly using the Editor in LegalOn".

Download

Download the attached file.
