[New] Contract comparison feature: Overview

Updated over 2 weeks ago

This article explains the features of the new LegalOn. For information on the current version’s product features, please refer to this page.

What is the Comparison feature?

The Comparison feature helps you identify differences between contract documents by comparing two versions side-by-side.

You can:

  • Compare different versions of the same contract

  • Compare similar contracts (e.g., your template vs. a counterparty draft)

Comparison results can be viewed in two modes:

  1. Compare full text — highlights changes across the entire contract text

  2. Compare by article — aligns and compares individual clauses even if order or wording differs

For how-to instructions, see: [How to compare contracts].

1. Compare full text

Use Compare full text feature when you want to see all additions, deletions, or edits made to the full contract body.

Common use cases for Compare full text feature

  • Check if the counterparty made silent changes to your draft without track changes.

  • Compare an old version and an updated version for internal review.

  • Confirm regular renewals match your agreed terms.

Example scenarios:

  • Reviewing a draft before and after edits.

  • Confirming that a periodically renewed contract still aligns with past terms.

2. Compare by article

Use Clause comparison when comparing contracts that may have different clause order, numbering, or phrasing — such as:

  • Comparing your internal template with a counterparty’s draft.

  • Checking back-to-back contract conditions (upstream vs. downstream).

  • Reviewing original vs. sub-license or sublease agreements.

How it works:
The tool automatically aligns clauses from both contracts to highlight differences clause by clause.
