Coaches are paid for coaching after they deliver the coaching purchased by the customer. There are two pay periods each month: the 15th and the last day of every month. Customers pay for coaching on Leland upfront to ensure that coaches are only using time on the balance that has already been committed to by the customer.
The coaching that you sell on Leland falls into one of four buckets:
1:1 Coaching (specific amount of hours)
1:1 Coaching (a range of hours)
Bootcamps
Content (Leland+)
Each of these has similar payout models, but vary slightly. Here’s what you need to know:
1:1 Coaching
Leland's fee structure differs depending on the type of lead:
You bring the lead — When coaches refer their own leads, the Leland fee is reduced to 5% (plus Stripe processing fees, which are ~3%). In addition to the reduced take rate, coaches also earn 5% of everything the client spends with other coaches. Access your client referral link here to start referring leads.
Leland brings the lead and the coach sells them — When Leland generates the demand for coaches and the coaches sell the client, Leland's take rate starts at 20% (plus Stripe fees) and slides down to 5% (plus Stripe fees) as the customer purchases more coaching from the coach. Here's an overview of the sliding rate buckets:
20% + Stripe fees (~3%) — 0-$5,000
18% + Stripe fees (~3%) — $5,000-$10,000
15% + Stripe fees (~3%) — $10,000 - $15,000
10% + Stripe fees (~3%) — $15,000 - $25,000
5% + Stripe fees (~3%) — $25,000+
Sales assisted leads — When you opt into this feature, Leland's sales team may match high-intent clients directly to you. These clients are sourced through personalized outreach and consultations, drawn from thousands of conversations we have with prospective customers. Because Leland is more involved in acquiring and placing these clients, we attach a 10% sales fee when you work with them. You'll still set your own prices—only take-home earnings are adjusted. Partner-driven opportunities — Leland works with a number of partners and university partners, and needs to standardize rates for them. Because of that, take rates also vary.
Payout Timeline for 1:1 Coaching (specific amount of hours)
When you sell hours of coaching, either through a package or custom hourly coaching, it’s important that you log the time as it is used.
You will be paid out for logged hours in the next pay period, with payouts happening on the 1st and the 15th of each month.
1:1 Coaching (no specific hours)
Packages with a range of hours are more common for comprehensive application coaching. They tend to be higher in price and cover more start-to-finish coaching situations.
For these packages, you're paid 50% of the payout 2 payout cycles after you accept the order, 25% after two months, and the final 25% when the package is marked as complete.
If the package takes less than two months to complete, then you will be paid the full 50% when you mark the package as complete. Once a package is marked as complete, the client loses access to the coach calendar for scheduling and other resources, so do not mark packages complete until you are done working with the client.
Please note that when comprehensive packages are marked as completed, they move into a 7 day processing window, so you may see the payment come through one payment cycle later depending on how the dates fall.
Bootcamps
Coaches are paid for classes in the pay period immediately following their bootcamp.
Content (Leland+)
Coaches are paid out for their content three pay periods after the month ends. So, for payouts from content engagement in May, coaches are paid out on July 1st. This gives us enough time to ensure proper calculations.
Customer Referrals
When you refer clients to Leland, we reduce our platform fee to 5% when they work with you and pay you 5% of everything they spend with other coaches.
Referral spending payouts occur 2 months after purchase date.
Pay Periods
Leland initiates payouts to coaches on the 15th and the last day of every month. After that, it may take 1-3 days for the payment to land in your bank account. You can see what your expected next payout will be in your Earnings Dashboard.
