How to Enable Retakes for District or School Assessments
In the left menu, navigate to My District Activities or My School Activities depending on your admin role.
Locate the assessment you want to allow retakes for and click on the underlined title.
In the details section, find the Retake option. Check the box to enable retakes or uncheck it to disable them. When enabled, you can also set an end date for retake availability (optional).
IMPORTANT NOTE: If retakes are turned off while students are mid-assessment on a retake, they will be logged out, and their progress will not be saved. However, scores from any previously completed retakes will remain unaffected.
Teacher Options for Retakes on District or School Activities (When Enabled)
When a retake is enabled for a district or school activity, teachers can choose to assign a retake with one of the presentation options:
Edit Incorrect Items Only (With Previous Responses Shown) – Students see only incorrect items with their previous responses and can update them. The score combines correct original answers with updates.
Edit Incorrect Items Only (No Previous Responses Shown) – Students see only incorrect items without previous responses and can update them. The score combines correct original answers with updates.
Edit All Items (With Previous Responses Shown) – Students see all items with previous responses but don’t know what was correct. They can update any response. The score reflects correct answers on this retake.
Start Fresh (All Items, No Previous Responses Shown) – Students see all items with no responses selected. They start fresh, and the score reflects correct answers on this retake.
Edit Incorrect Items Only (View Correct Items with Responses Shown) – Students see all items, with correct ones marked. They can update only incorrect items. The score combines correct original answers with updates.
Note: Students who received a 100 on the original assessment will be marked as ineligible for a retake for the "Incorrect Items Only" options.
Additional Notes
When the retake option is enabled and a teacher assigns a retake for District or School assessments, the retake is automatically created under the teacher’s activities, but teachers do not have editing rights for these retakes.
Retake data is kept separate from original data and shown in its own distinct column on the Reports page for clear reporting.
Removing access to a school or district activity will also remove the retake option if it was enabled.
Teachers can assign one retake per completed assessment, if enabled.
Students will only see the retake option if it has been explicitly assigned by their teacher.
