How to create Number Line Items for learning activities:
Click My Student Actions from the left menu.
Click on the green Add Student Action button in the top right of the Student Actions panel. Then click Next.
Fill in Details
Grade: choose the grade level.
Subject: choose (e.g., Math).
Description: optional internal notes (not shown to students).
Status: note that new items are inactive by default — change to Active if you want to use it on an assignment immediately.
Item Type: select Number Line.
Tagging & Attachments
Tagging: add the item to an Action Bank (optional), tag standards, add custom tags, and set the DOK level.
Attachments: optionally upload documents, images, or website links that will appear with the item on student assignments.
Scrolling down, you will now see the Content section. Here is where you are going to create your Number Line item.
5. Add teacher-only instructions (these are NOT visible to students).
6. Enter the stem (student-facing directions). This is what students will read when they respond.
7. Configure the number line range
Min / Max values: set the smallest and largest values (default is -5 to 5).
Intervals: choose the spacing of tick marks and how tick labels display.
Line width & arrows: adjust the visual width and toggle arrows on left/right ends.
Title (optional): add a title that appears below the number line.
8. Select which markup tools students are allowed to use (click to enable; any highlighted tool is available).
9. Set the Max number of elements the student can add (e.g., 2 if you only want two points).
10. Set the correct answer
Choose the tool you want to use for marking the correct response (if only one tool is enabled it will be selected by default).
Mark up the number line to create the correct answer.
Use Undo to step back; use Clear All to restart the answer setup.
11. Once you are done, scroll back to the top and preview the item to see how it will look for students and confirm tools/labels behave as expected.
12. Ensure Status is set to Active if you want it available in assignments.
