Turning the Read Aloud Feature on for Specific Students:

The Read Aloud Grid allows for teachers to set the read aloud accommodation for students by subject area.

Using the Read Aloud Grid

1. Click on Students from the left menu.

2. Click on the Read Aloud button in top bar of the Students section.

3. Then set the read aloud accommodations accordingly to each subject for those students who may need it.

You can still go in to an individual student profile to set read aloud settings. However, what you select there will set that read aloud accommodation for all their subjects. If you need them more specific, use the grid view to set these. If the student has different read aloud accommodations already, you will see the grid view in their individual student profile as well.

Example:

This student had different read aloud accommodations set for each class. Therefore, they have the View Grid button in their profile.

This student had no read aloud accommodations set. Therefore, they have the dropdown menu in their profile.

NOTE: This is teacher specific. If a student has more than one teacher, make sure each teacher sets read aloud accommodations accordingly.

Turning the Read Aloud Feature on for Activities/Assignments:

1. Click on My Activities from the left menu.

2. Click on the underlined title of the assignment you wish to turn Read Aloud on for.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the right panel. Here you will see the Responder Tools section where you can turn on the Read Aloud feature for the activity.

NOTE: This will turn the accommodation on for all students for this activity. If you do not wish for all students to have an accommodation on for an activity, make sure you set it for the specific students instead of for an activity.

Read Aloud has a drop down box which allows teachers to easily select from the Read-Aloud options:

  • Student Actions Only: The student will only have the questions read aloud.

  • Passages & Students Actions: The student will have the passage and questions read aloud.

  • Passages Only: The student will have the passages read aloud.

NOTE: Read-aloud is not reliable when reading math equations.
