First: Let Us Use Your Mic and Camera

  1. Say yes to permissions
At the top of your browser, look for a lock or camera icon in the address bar. Click it and allow mic and camera access. If we can’t use your gear, we can’t test it.

  2. Ditch the Bluetooth
Bluetooth headphones? Unplug 'em. They mess with recordings. Go wired or use your computer’s mic. Then close the page, open a fresh browser window, and try the link again.

  3. Kill the competition
Apps like Zoom, Skype, or Teams love stealing your mic and camera. Shut them down completely — like, really quit them — or we won’t be able to access your devices.

  4. Try Incognito Mode
Open a private/incognito window in Chrome or Firefox. Don’t just click the link — copy and paste it into that new window.

  5. Switch it up
Still stuck? Try a different browser. Chrome and Firefox are your best friends here — and they’re free.

  6. Turn it off and on again
Yep, the classic fix. Restart your computer and give the link another shot.

Improve That Connection

A smooth tech check = good Wi-Fi vibes. Here's how to boost yours:

  • Kick other devices off the Wi-Fi
Streaming on your phone? Tablet downloading 5 seasons of something? Pause all that. Free up the bandwidth.

  • Go wired
If you’ve got an Ethernet cable lying around, plug it in. Wired = faster, more stable connection.

  • Close the clutter
Too many tabs or apps open? Shut them down. Your browser and internet will thank you.

  • No Netflix in the background
Heavy streaming or downloading can mess with your video quality. Save the binge for later.

  • Restart your router
Sometimes your router just needs a nap. Give it one and try again.

Also: lighting, camera angle, and audio quality all matter. So position yourself like the rockstar you are.

Check Your Setup — Let’s Make This Easy

Before you dive into our tech check, make sure you're rocking the latest version of Chrome (that’s our fave). But hey, if Chrome’s not your thing, Firefox or Edge totally work too. Even Safari (as long as it's version 13 or up) gets a high five from us.

Not sure what browser you're on? No worries — just head over to whatsmybrowser.org.
That site will tell you what’s up. You can even copy the results link and send it to our support team if something’s being weird.

⚠️ Heads-up: If your browser version is older than 80, you’ll need to update it. Here’s how:

At Bello, we’re all about smooth tech vibes — so get updated and let’s roll. 🚀

Using an External Camera or Headset?

Heads up: during the tech check, we auto-select your default camera and mic.

But right now:

  • Close all other apps using your mic/camera (yep, even Teams and Zoom again)

  • Launch the check through your browser, using the link from your recruiter

  • Allow mic/camera access when your browser asks

  • Click the button to start recording

  • Speak up into your mic and make sure it sounds clear

  • Review your video to double-check quality

  • Adjust lighting/positioning if needed

Once you pass the check, feel free to plug your fancy gear back in.

Firewalls, VPNs, and Corporate Computers

If your camera or mic isn’t showing up, it could be your network or device locking things down.

Here’s how to escape:

  • Using a work laptop?
Your company might block our tools (even if Zoom works fine). Try a personal device on a regular, open network.

  • Got a firewall or VPN on?
Turn them off temporarily. They’re probably blocking us.

Need a hand? You’re not alone. Reach out and we’ll help you through it. 💪
At Bello, we’re all about making this easy, human, and stress-free. Let’s get you connected.
