Why Lifeway’s Shipping Feels Expensive
1. Their shipping fees are based on your order value, not weight
Lifeway doesn’t calculate shipping by weight like many retailers.
Instead, fees increase with the total dollar value of your order — for example:
$0.01–$19.99 → $6 standard
$20–$39.99 → $8 standard
$40–$59.99 → $10 standard
…and so on.
Since the cost is tied to how much you spend, not how heavy the items are, the price can jump quickly even for small/light items.
2. Faster shipping speeds cost significantly more
Express, expedited, and premium delivery can be double or triple the standard rate for some order ranges.
3. Some product types are excluded from free shipping
Even though Lifeway offers free shipping on certain categories (books, Bibles, church supplies, VBS) when you spend $100+, many items do NOT qualify, including:
Bible study books
Ongoing curriculum
Print‑on‑demand products
Some VBS materials
So if your cart mixes qualifying and non‑qualifying items, you still get charged shipping for the excluded items — which can make it feel more expensive.
4. Shipping costs are influenced by Lifeway’s distribution model
For curriculum and church resources, Lifeway ships massive quarterly batches in scheduled “distribution cycles,” which requires extra logistics, staffing, and handling.
This overhead can factor into pricing.
5. International orders cost even more
International shipments carry:
Higher carrier fees
A mandatory $5 international fee
Responsibility for duties/taxes
